New tabs don't open in the current workspace
-
I in essence love the workspaces thing. I've been trying to get something like this done for a while through sessions, but it's just cumbersome.
That being said, there's a really annoying bug in workspaces. When I am in a workspace any new tabs I open should be opened IN the workspace. Instead it's opened in some weird hidden background workspace that I'm guessing is the default empty workspace or something. Thing is now I have to go OUT of the workspace to find the tabs I just opened and either close them there or drag them back to the workspace I was in.
This rather defeats the point of having a workspace to begin with, as it's the whole "having to open a session in a new window and save it then delete the old version of the session" hassle all over again in a new form.
TL;DR
When in a workspace new tabs should be part of that workspace, not some weird hidden default workspace. -

Hi, I do this all day, open new tabs in a workspace.
How do you open new tabs?
I tried with +, Ctrl+T and open new tab over a link.Cheers, mib

I meant if you simply right-click a link and open in new tab or background tab.
But it also happens if you open a new tab (e.g. ctrl+t) and type in a URL.The website will be shown in the workspace window so at first glance it looks all right, but the tab going with the website is hidden in the default workspace. It won't appear among the tabs of the workspace you're in.

@stefan-dingenouts I don't experience this on Windows. When I right click and select
Open Link in New Tab
it opens in the currently active workspace -
I have this same issue in Standalone 6.0.2979.9 (Official Build) (64-bit) as well. If I click on the + sign for a new tab or right click to open a new tab I can't see the new tab. I go to the default tab which has a Start Page tab (there by default) and the new tab is there!!
I should add that I just downloaded stable and working fine there with the update. I then restarted standalone and tested again and working!!

@browseruser I was going to reply that then apparently some people have the bug all the time and some people don't have it all, but that doesn't tell us much yet...
BUT... when I started my computer again today I thought I'd check whether just having shut down and started my computer again made any difference, and lo and behold: Vivaldi now opens tabs in the workspace I'm in.
Seems a restart of the PC is sometimes required to get Vivaldi to do workspaces correctly.

One reboot, it goes away, next (w/ power cycle) it comes back. Annoying bug, rather. Will make a report as such for this otherwise useful new feature.

@Canne
Hi, this is reported already, the developer try to find out why it work for the most user but not for some.
Some user report it is related to PWA (Vivaldi as App) running before closing Vivaldi.
Some report it get messed up using Vivaldi sync.
Nobody knows at moment.Cheers, mib

Thanks, was about to hit the "Submit report" button. Instead, will wait then.

@Canne
There are some,
VB-96777
Workspaces are not saved
VB-96745
After creating a Workspace new tabs open in a completely different workspace that is not currently openI cant reproduce any of the reports in several Stable, Snapshot and internal installs on Windows and Linux.
But I reset my sync data often, for example.Cheers, mib

After creating a Workspace new tabs open in a completely different workspace that is not currently openThanks for the links, but is it only me or it is indeed so that the bug trackers are not public in Vivaldi as understood from elsewhere in this forum? If I open https://vivaldi.com/bugreport/?bug=VB-96745 it is quite useless, IMO since I cannot see what else has been reported. Awaiting is as good than reporting the same issue twice.
Anyway, thanks for the tip, I'll try that sync clean.

@Canne
Yes, the bug tracker is not public as many companies does.
I am a Vivaldi tester and can view/edit parts of it.Cheers, mib

This is to report that I made a complete reset of the sync data logged out, quit program. Restarted program, new tabs open in the current workspace. Restarted sync, no problems with tabs. Continued working. Now, about 24 hours later the problem is back.

Still the same issue on 6.0.2979.22 64-bit - but only on Windows 11 while on a work computer with Windows 10 the problem does not appear, same settings for tabs.
