DuckDuckGo response times like 8 seconds in April 2023?

@LorenAmelang They'll probably fix it, as with all these things, they come and go. Follow the Github issue so you'll be notified of changes. Or post your findings.
I did a check with Devtools, the reasons for the delay is a massive hang on a request for a data url for a web font.
7s delay there. It's a base64-encoded woff font file.

@Blackbird Fair enough. I just see it overused, and as is, it's basically a logical fallacy, so I fail to see the utility.

It's not a "logical" fallacy. In troubleshooting a technical problem, several questions must be answered early-on in order to converge efficiently on the problem's most likely cause. First, what kind of equipment is involved (eg: potentially-impacting software names, versions, relevant accessories, etc) in the problem system. Second, what are the consistent steps to repeat the problem on the victim system? Third, are the problem and its steps-to-repeat seen on other similar systems? Fourth, are the problem and its steps-to-repeat seen on other dissimilar systems? Solid answers to all these questions point the most fruitful direction to pursue in troubleshooting the root problem cause. Otherwise, it's largely a shot-in-the-dark guess as to most likely cause, and that wastes both time and resources.

wow I was literally just trying to do a total browser migration after having this EXACT issue with duckduckgo...in addition to my ongoing problem of not being able to update (still running Vivaldi 5.5.2805.50) because as soon as I do my webpage load times go up like crazy.
the duckduckgo thing was about to be the last straw (I liked it as opposed to Google which has just gone to hell recently for me) but noticed that using it as my default search engine (i.e. typing directly into the omnibox) was wayyyy slower than using Google.
so I guess this gives me a little bit of hope for now knowing DDG has worked fine before but I'm still at a loss as to the updating Vivaldi thing. I love VIvaldi from every other aspect besides this recently-developed loading issue, which is THIS close to being a dealbreaker
