Solved Google's voice services (search, docs, translate) not working in Vivaldi
-
@doctorg thank you very much, for the clarification, this will make me concentrate my resources on looking for alternatives.
-
@pathduck Yes, I also realized that this service is not available in firefox, but being basically chromium I found it a bit weird.
I guess google can live without the feedback of other browsers.
the good thing is that in android this service works perfectly.
I hope apple can say the same.
-
@pathduck Sorry, but isn't Vivaldi's user agent the same as Chrome's?
-
@leo32345 Yes, but there's more than just the UA going on here. I think that since the button is not greyed out like in other browsers like Firefox, the site does "think" it's seeing Chrome.
But there's more to it, maybe a component that Vivaldi is missing or an API key that needs to be sent before it works.
-
@jhonca Hey I found an alternative
By the way, some users have complained that the translate doesn't work. To fix this, replace "Automatic Detection" to the language. -
@leo32345
thanks for the suggestion, but I was referring to looking for alternatives for voice translation.
in this case I think that the bing voice translator is our best ally.

Does anybody know why Google search doesn't work? It keeps saying there is no Internet connection. anyone knows how to fix it or is that the bug involved the vivaldi?
-
@sousan It is not a bug, it is a missing feature. Vivaldi would have to pay to use Google voice search.
-
I´m just corious , why does this option work in MS Edge browser and not in vivalda? Did Microsoft pay for this service or is it something else?
-
@mrodic Please read the preceding posts.

@mrodic said in Google voice search not working:
why does this option work in MS Edge browser
Microsoft pays annual&per Edge-installation license fees to Google.

@doctorg ok, thnx for the info

Hi,
Go to https://google.co.uk and click the microphone in the search field.... this should result in being able to speak a search request, but Vivaldi says "no internet available" - I have chosen No Blocking for the page, refreshed it, but it still does not work. It works fine, 100% of the time on Chrome.

@markTpalmos Voice Search is a paid Google Service and Vivaldi has no contract to use licenses from Google.

Hi
By "paid service" do you mean people who don't have paid-for Google accounts cannot use Voice Search function, because I've just tried with my wife and mother's accounts, and both work fine, and they have free Google Accounts...
I've just tried with Chrome without being logged in as any user, also works fine...
Also, I have just tried Edge (not signed in to anything)... works fine too!tx

@markTpalmos I apologise, my answer was not clear enough for you.
The browser manufacturer is forced to pay licenses to use Voice, pay per browser installation and year(!). Vivaldi has not the financial resources at this time to throw money into Google's greedy mouth.Edge works as Microsoft pays to Google. And Chrome is a Google product, i do not think they have to pay anthing.
-
@DoctorG ok thanks.
Oddly, on Firefox the microphone is missing on google.co.uk, but not on Vivaldi. I wonder if it shouldn't be removed, if it is not functional and if it is possible to remove... others like me will waste their time asking questions about why it isn't working -
@markTpalmos With Vivaldi showing of microphone on Google pages is a error/misdetection of Google's webdesigners, that can not be fixed by Vivaldi.
-
why does Google voice search work on my Samsung / android but not on windows 11 desktop?
It says no internet? -
@Hunkydory It is a service that Vivaldi would have to pay for.
