[Bug] Problems with bookmarks
-
For the last couple of months, I keep having problems with Vivaldi bookmarks. Here are some of those problems:
-
When I click on the bookmark icon at the top of the browser (to bookmark the page that I'm on), sometimes I get a popup under the icon that allows me to search for and select a bookmark folder and sometimes not. When the popup DOES NOT appear, the bookmark gets added to some arbitrary folder. Also, regardless of whether or not I get the popup, the bookmark is added somewhere but the icon does not change to indicate that the page has been bookmarked.
-
When I try to add, rename, or delete folders in the bookmark manager, the changes don't show up until I close and then reopen the bookmark manager. For example, if I delete a folder, the folder still appears in the bookmark manager until I close and then reopen the bookmark manager. If I delete a bookmark (e.g., like multiples of a bookmark that get added as a result of the first bug I reported above), the deleted bookmark does not go away until I close and reopen the bookmark manager.
-
When I drag a URL to the bookmark bar, the bookmark does not show on the bookmark bar until I close and then reopen Vivaldi. This just started happening within the last day or so.
I don't know what's going on but bookmarks were working great but now they're all screwed up. I create a lot of bookmark folders and save a lot of bookmarks. If this isn't fixed soon then I'm going to have to abandon Vivaldi and go with another browser. I really like Vivaldi but these bookmark problems are really getting in my way.

@rwojcik
Hi.-
There is a new setting to disable the pop up, click again on the icon open the menu, too.

There is a long thread about bookmark update issues and it is reported to the Vivaldi bug tracker.
I need several hours and 100+ tabs to reproduce it, after restart of Vivaldi the issue is gone for another several hours on my system.
So hard to reproduce for the developer.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/82643/bookmark-bar-drag-drop-issues
Cheers, mib

Definitely a problem. Not able to reproduce, but sucks : )
When working with the panel, pressing F4 twice works to refresh and see the changes, like another user mentioned. -
-
@mib2berlin Yes, disappears at restart.

I'm having this issue also now, as of this morning when I updated from 5.6 to the latest stable. Bookmarks not deleting Should have stayed where i was at. Everything worked fine. This 5.7 has issues that are such an annoyance for me. Especially losing the ability to automate navigating to the previously used tabs

Just want to chip in and say I have had this problem too on 2 devices, probably for a few months now. Pretty much any interaction with a bookmark feature shows no indication of any activity.
- Clicking the Bookmark icon in the address bar results in nothing visually happening, but I'll later find the new bookmark added to a folder (the most recent one?) Editing an existing bookmark this way is often impossible
- Opening the Bookmark page and renaming or moving a bookmark shows no changes until a refresh occurs.
- Creating a new Bookmark folder shows nothing (until it refreshes)
- Deleting a bookmark from the Speed Dial screens does nothing (until refresh)
-
Yes, bookmarks are currenlty a significant pain. I can confirm all the problems reported by user rwojcik. Additionally:
-
Bookmarks aren't updated immediately in the Bookmark Panel or Address Bar until the bookmark panel is closed and reopened on the spot.
-
Occassisonly for random periods of time on a Vivaldi relaunch bookmarks works well enough.
-
Searching bookmarks using the Bookmark Panel works but doesn't retain the found location when the search is cleared as the entire bookmark tree closes up. Therefore one must then manually roam bookmarks until the desired spot is found when one can add a bookmark to the desired folder.
-
If the Address Bar URL or Domain matches a bookmark it should be bolded in the Address Bar domain or the exact matching URL should be bolded.
-
Now Vivaldi fails with bookmarking as described when < 10 windows open with <10 tabs each and eventually crashes on using bookmarks without notice when more than 70 tabs are open.
-
Bookmark issues have been previously reported months ago apparently ignored for whatever reason. (Unable to find the Vivaldi bug tracker bookmark problem reports.)

Yes, the bookmarks system needs to be reworked.
If I search for a folder in the bookmarks panel, its filtered and I can see it.
But then, I cant unfold/use it. That is unfortunate.
