Minor update for Vivaldi Desktop Browser 5.7
-
What about the numerous potential items from this build a week ago? It's a bit unlikely that absolutely none of them carried through, isn't it? It's very rare, if not unprecedented, for the first post-release build to only have a Chromium bump, even if it is one with security fixes as this is.

@rseiler well people like myself and Maria are technically on holiday (indeed the image is from my holiday). There will be an update with more but I kept it simple for now. This update is only happening today because it contains security fixes.

@Ruarí said in Minor update for Vivaldi Desktop Browser 5.7:
@pathduck: Here is an Open Location Code (a.k.a. Plus Code): 9FFFXP9G+P59
Paste it into Google Maps or any other site that supports them.I sure hope you didn't unicycle all that way from the city?!
-
@pathduck: like an hour or so outside of Oslo
-
Is the sad state of that house a comment of the state of the web/internet?
-
@scottytrees On a unicycle? Oh yeah, sure
Is the sad state of that house a comment of the state of the web/internet?
A reference to the state of Vivaldi's code base?
-
@pathduck: the northern route through Vik is a lot more scenic, but it does clock in at just over 7 hours if all you have is one wheel ,lol.
-
@Pathduck I didn't but… I am considering doing it in the future. It is certainly "doable" and would likely be quite fun, even if it did take all day.
-
@Ruarí Unicycle Oslo -> Bergen as a livestream event for Vivaldi, now there's an idea
-
or ///fakkelen.fløyel.felte (a.k.a. ///grad.enacts.crash) if you use what three words.

I waited for a "minor update" to see if it took... Indeed, it did: The macOS keyboard shortcut for minimize (dock) window in the Windows menu finally displays the correct key combo. Thanks, all.
(Yeah, I finally upgraded to a newer machine... )
Oh, and the Windows Panel is great!
-
Hmm,, still not seeing it show up yet on Fedora 37, even after refreshing my mirrors. I installed Vivaldi the way the devs recommended too. Should I be waiting this long for the update?
-
Fix for VB-93838 isn't integrated
-
@colebantam There is not fix yet that could have been inegrated.
-
@DoctorG
In the comments to the Blogpost for 5.7 "RTM" there was someone mentioning a fix. -
@scottytrees It works ok on my Fedora 36 test install
-
@Ruarí I didn't notice this before but the Vivaldi repo which normally shows up when I update in the terminal appears to be missing:
Normally I'd see a Vivaldi repo in that list but it appears to be missing now. I've never altered the list before. I originally installed Vivaldi 2-3 months ago by downloading the .rpm file from vivaldi.com/download, then using gnome software to install it.
Currently I'm on Vivaldi v5.6.2867.58 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit). I guess I'll attempt to just re-download the latest version from the site again and hope it adds back the Vivaldi repo. Just very odd that it's been missing from my repo list.
Edit: I just checked my dnf repolist (sudo dnf repolist all) and there is no Vivaldi repo enabled or disabled, so somehow it just completely disappeared at some point. Very strange indeed.
-
@scottytrees OK, I know what it is. When the distro upgrades the repo can get removed. That is why upstream (chromium) has a cron job that can add it back but… Fedora no longer has cron by default.
There is another way that the repo is added/updated and that is during install of Vivaldi… but that had a bug on our side. The combination of these two issues means that updates where broken on modern Fedora for you and some others.
I fixed one of the bugs in the 5.7 series, the post install setup of the repo but have yet to do anything with an equivalent of cron (e.g. perhaps systemd timers).
Anyway… to fix this just install the latest rpm manually, e.g.
sudo dnf --nogpgcheck -y install ./vivaldi-stable-5.7.2921.60-1.x86_64.rpm
This will setup the repo (in post install) and in a later version of Vivaldi I will do something to handle the other bug.
-
@Ruarí Yup thanks for the speedy reply, I just manually re-installed Vivaldi again and now the Vivaldi repo does indeed show up on my repo list now so everything is running as it should. Thanks for the clarification and the tip. I always keep my eye on updates here so if I come across this problem again (doubtful as it is now) in Fedora 37 or when 38 is released, I'll be sure to post about it, kindly of course. Cheers!
