Install PWA option missing for Gmail
-
When I open mail.google.com in Vivaldi, I do not see the Install app/PWA option. When I open the same website in Edge, I do see an option to install it as a PWA - which makes me believe that it is not an issue on gmail side. How/what should I do to install Gmail as a PWA?
Note: When I visit vivaldi://apps, I see Google Calendar listed there and it works as a PWA.

@joseaugustin Hi, what is your Vivaldi version?
Does this demo page work for you?
https://www.khmyznikov.com/pwa-install/Click "Show" and you should get a prompt to install the site as a PWA.
But for some reason this does not work in 5.8 Snapshot, only Show Forced works - anyone else?Vivaldi has a way even if the site does not show the PWA prompt, please read:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/miscellaneous/progressive-web-apps/Another demo page:
https://zoltangy.github.io/react-pwa-install-demo/
The "Install" button does not show in 5.8 Snapshot but shows in 5.7 Stable... strange. -
@Pathduck : I am on 5.7.2921.53. The demo sites work. I get the prompt AND I see the install option when I right click on the tab bar. However gmail still doesn't work (no prompt OR install option). I opened gmail in an Private window with the same effect. Gmail shows me the install option when opened via Chrome and Edge.

@joseaugustin OK did you try the Vivaldi workaround?
IT works fine here as a PWA. Right click tab, choose Create Shortcut:
-
@Pathduck : Create shortcut is not the same as a PWA. It does not launch the browser in an app mode. PWA makes the application "contained" within that window - and that is what I was looking for. So is the conclusion that PWA mode is broken in Vivaldi for now?

@joseaugustin said in Install PWA option missing for Gmail:

Yes, it does exactly that if "Open as window" is selected.
Did you read the documentation?
So is the conclusion that PWA mode is broken in Vivaldi for now?
No it works fine.

Thank you. I had not realized that create shortcut and Install ... were going towards the same outcome. I am all set for now. Thanks!
