YouTube black full screen
-
Hello,
Recently started getting a black screen when going full screen with a YouTube video. I can still hear audio. Escape works. F key works. Double clicking doesn't, but has the effect of selecting the video window, which is observed when exiting full screen. I have tried running the video in incognito, and it works just fine. Tried disabling all my extensions and no change. Just did a GPU driver update with no change. Did a PC restart with no change. Any ideas?

@CristiNeagu If it works in incognito, it’s likely something in your profile is the culprit. Try on an additional profile and check whether it works.
-
@luetage A guest profile also works. But I already know it's a fault with my profile. I just have no idea where to even start to correct it.
-
@CristiNeagu Me neither. You can either struggle with it until you find a solution, or reset it.
-
@CristiNeagu Have you tried all the troubleshooting steps?
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/troubleshoot/troubleshooting-issues/Remember you usually also need to restart the browser after disabling extensions, since extension code might still be active in opened (YouTube) tabs.
My initial guess would be some multi-monitor issue, maybe combined with Picture-in-Picture. Like if one has PiP active and then presses F on the YT video, it will still open full-screen with a black window. But if the PiP window is "hidden" or on another monitor, it will be just audio. Maybe some broken "automatic PiP" extension, with a hidden PiP window?
-
@Pathduck A good idea about PiP, but I don't have a second screen, nor do I have any such extensions. But that was my first thought as well, that the video is being rendered on a different screen. Thing is that other sites (like Amazon) are working fine. And if I scroll down while in full screen on YouTube, the comment section comes up as normal.
I shall go through those troubleshooting steps and see if anything works. Thanks.

@CristiNeagu I have the same problem, if you manage to solve it i'd appreciate if you can tell me how you did it

Reporting that I am having the same issue.
-
Same bug, starts yesterday at 5.6xx, now updates to 5.7.2921.53 (Stable channel) (64-bit), but no changes.
-
I got it today too, then I updated it to the latest version on my mac "5.7.2921.53 (Stable channel) (arm64) ", but still geting the same black screen. It does work in Incognito. If anyone finds solution - please share it. Thank you
-
@whitesiroi Well, there’s clearly something wrong. But could one of you find it in them to test it on a new profile? So far all that was checked was incognito and guest profile. A guest profile is not a proper profile.

@whitesiroi
Hi, since more and more user steps by but it work in guest profile or incognito window I guess one of your extensions was updated and stop working in Vivaldi or Youtube or both.
You can try to disable all extensions, restart Vivaldi and test again.
To be absolute sure it is not an extension you have to remove them, some of them lurk in the background even you have disable it.Cheers, mib

thank you for replies guys,
I created a new profile and synced all the data to the new profile, so I have all the same extensions etc - and it does work perfectly fine in the new profile, hhhm, so prolly it's not an extension fault, not sure.
-
@whitesiroi Well, I wanted you to test it clean, without extensions. But since it worked now, I would guess it is either a specific setting which doesn’t get synced, or one of the latest updates introduces the bug on dirty profiles. It would be best, if you could try to break your new profile now and note down what you did to achieve it, but not sure whether it’s possible.
-
or one of the latest updates introduces the bug on dirty profiles.
I encountered the black screen today even before I updated Vivaldi, I thought that after I update it it - it's gonna fixed, but no bueno.
If I find the culprit/solution - gonna share it here.
-
@whitesiroi The initial report is from the previous version, but no one ever mentioned what update stream they are using. Today was an update to stable, but it’s entirely possible this was in snapshot previously, or even in a point update to the previous stable. That’s why it’s always a good idea to note down the Vivaldi version.
-
Also happens for me on the latest Snapshot on Windows 10.
Example Video, but seems to be any video.

I started getting the same behavior with my new profile, at first it was working fine, but after hour or so - getting the same black full screen for youtube vids.

Seems to be fixed in 5.7 Stable.
-
@Pesala Not for me, unfortunately.
@whitesiroi Currently running the latest version (5.7.2921.53 (Stable channel) (64-bit) )
