RC2 already?

Regarding the bug
- [Windows] Low quality videos skew on some machines if direct-composition-video-overlays are active (VB-94974)
We are testing a fix for this internally and it will almost certainly appear in the final but it was not read for this build. If you are affected use the switch
--disable-direct-composition-video-overlays
in the mean time to work around it. -
Cool students!

So fast

idk if they are regressions, because I recently switched to Linux, but I have two painful issues:
-
I usually have two profiles open (work and personal) - if I close one (using the profile popup on the right of address bar, last option "Exit [profile name]") there is a 80% chance that in 0-5 seconds whole browser will shut down. I keep relaunching browser, trying to exit just one of the profiles until it's done. it doesn't matter which profile I try to close
-
this must be related to heavy js or some multimedia elements. Sometimes when I open a webpage with a lot of ads (ie. wykop.pl, also some news websites article) and I close it it basically hangs the browser - the tab disappears from my eyes, the previous one is displayed, but the tab I just "close" is still on the tab bar, I can no longer switch tabs, or basically do anything except (IIRC) scrolling the page that is now presented to me (my previous tab)
These are super annoying and adds the feel of the browser being unstable.

@ruarí: That means in the next snapshot it might be fixed?
-
Just received the Snapshot. Thank you.

@Ruarí I just noticed a bug in Vivaldi Mail, in both this Snapshot and the current Stable 5.6. Do not know how long it has been present in both releases.
If a link is sent via e-mail that has numbers on the end (e.g. a link from Vivaldi Social), the selectable URL in the sent and received e-mails, ends at the last forward slash and does not include the numbers on the end.
Reported as bug VB-95290. Screenshot showing example URL is attached to the bug report.

Not fixed and is fine in the current stable: (VB-93838) The new default Panel width is forced back after restart

@Capushon
Hi, the bug is confirmed but no developer is assigned.
It can take months to get a bug fixed, there are thousands of bugs waiting.Cheers, mib

Find in page still does not remember the last-used search string on other tabs.
This regression is several months old now.
-
@Pesala Not the first and not the last forgotten annoying (but not critical) bug

Maybe Vivaldi team should start to concentrate more on fixing bugs? I would like to see a different approach to this "create all kinds of new features, but not finish them properly" thing they seem to follow. I mean, many new features are created but then abandoned, leaving bugs and not polishing the feature to be good. And not all previous bugs are not dealt with.
Develop 1 new feature at a time and polish it. And assign more people to crunch all other bugs, then move to a new feature. Repeat. IMO there's too little focus on bug fixing and polishing new features.
-
And what has happened to scrolling the webpages with mouse wheel? It's much more "sensitive" in the current snapshot versus stable!
"Smooth Scrolling" is the only setting I can find that IMO could affect this behavior. I've it ON for both stable and snapshot but the scrolling speed is different.
Scrolling in the snapshot goes "too fast" now, it's harder to use. What has happened? Upstream Chromium changed somehow or Vivaldi team changed something?

@Preorian
Which more people, 20 developer are 20 and they work on 5 platforms. I understand the frustration if "own important" bugs are not fixed in a few days but if development worked like this we would have bug free windows since version 1.0.EDIT: I will check your scroll issue but smooth scrolling is always the first setting I disable, like animation.
Is this on Windows, which version?Cheers, mib

You didn't understand, I didn't mean more people, just allocating more people to bug fixing (& polishing old features) and not developing so many new features at the same time. To me it feels like Vivaldi is trying to create more and more new features as fast as they can, without polishing them (recent example, disable auto-play of videos), and leaving too much bugs behind.

@Preorian
I understand but it makes no difference if you set 12 on bug fixing or 18 to handle thousands of bugs.
As you mention I would prefer a bug fix release too, maybe every fourth version.
I am on Windows 11 now, I could check on Linux but I guess it makes no sense with a different distribution.Cheers, mib

That sounds rather depressing. Also, that means that more and more bugs accumulate... and at some point the whole browser starts to have so many bugs that users in large scale start to abandon it.
I have a feeling that the browser has been getting more buggy. I mean the whole tabs feature (pretty main feature of a browser) has so many bugs at this point that it really starts to annoy a lot. Bugs like: opening a closed tab doesn't anymore bring it to the old place in the tabs (now opens always as the last tab.. and before this started to happen, many times the closed tab re-opened was put to the wrong place), moving a several tabs (that are located right next to each other) at the same time many times puts them at seemingly random places, switching between two tabs with ctrl+tab sometimes opens a wrong tab, wrong tab ordering when doing "next/previous tab" function (I have a mouse gestures for those), etc. etc. etc., it really starts to be annoying to use Vivaldi. And more bugs accumulate if something is not changed how Vivaldi team develops their crown jewel. IMHO.
