Too many SSL Errors
-
I experience a lot of SSL Errors using Vivaldi browser. I can't access this forum using the browser. I must use FireFox to access this forum group. It's frustrating because I can't view my own website.
- Mac OSX 10.11.6
- Vivaldi Browser version: 4.0.2312.33 -
@SmittyNY Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
There's two "issues" here.
The first, about Vivaldi's (and other sites) certificate:
login.vivaldi.net
has a valid non-expired certificate.
So something on your system is causing this to happen.-
Either you have outdated SSL certificate stores on your OS - these are usually updated when the OS is updated. Most OS vendors have ways to update the SSL certificate store manually for outdated versions, so check your OS vendor's documentation.
-
Or, your system clock is out of whack, and your system has a wrong date. Check your system clock.
My guess is #2 is more likely given the error message.
Then again, your OS is 4 years out of support, so that's also a very likely cause.Second, for your website at
www.studio-m.nyc
This does NOT have a valid certificate.
The Common Name of this certificate is set tox13.x10hosting.com
which does NOT match your website hostname. No browser will allow this without warning. Firefox probably works because you've made a permanent exception for this site. Vivaldi (and other browsers) do no have an option to make a permanent security exception.
You will have to take this problem up with your website provider (X10Hosting).
In addition, your Vivaldi version is ancient, please update your browser.

This forum discussion has reasons why & fixes
https://community.letsencrypt.org/t/certificates-are-not-trusted-on-chrome-and-safari-on-old-imac-with-el-capitan/161231I’ll add that Firefox has its own certificate library & doesn’t rely on the os system keychain.
The problem affects all chrome browsers & Safari. You can export certificate ISRG Root X1 from Firefox

I neglected to say, If you can update your system that's the best answer. Security with the new macOS. Apple last upgrade in El Capitan was in 2018 & that was for Safari
If you're able to be sure to get OS 13 or later. All chrome based browsers require that as the minimum macos.
Again you'll have a more secure setup -
@tonyd1 I assume your system clock (and date) are set automatically via the internet. So, I doubt that's the problem...
Are you constrained to El Capitan, either by hardware limitations or personal choice? In either case, Vivaldi 5.3 works well, still; although it's not officially supported.
As mentioned elsewhere, Vivaldi versions using Chromium 105+ will not install on your current OS...Also, there was a forum thread from quite a while ago that gave explicit directions on how to update the system certificate....
Good luck!
