Bug: Ctrl + Tab does not cycle tabs in recent order
-
@jmpy just made this:
- assigned a single key shortcut (F1) an tested. It just cycles through all the tabs sequentially, not through the most recent
- I was also thinking the problem is within the tab cycler displaying, so I disabled it and still caught the bug.
-
This bug make the browser unusable imo.
-
How strange. I got this problem before on all of my shortcuts. But after this post, I've realized that I use one button shortcuts, which works well since May. When I tried a two button shortcut, every time when I press recent forward after recent backward, it loads anything but not the recent one.

Still persists here on latest macOS / Vivaldi.
To reproduce: not easy, but usually a problem with Google products, eg Docs.
I have just reproduced it as I saw the ticket.
- Open new google doc (https://doc.new)
- Type anything to document
- Ctrl+tab to this forum
- Ctrl+tab again.
Now, both this forum vivaldi.net AND google docs.google.com jumped to the end of cycle list.

Same here, I am currently on Vivaldi version 6.5.3206.39 (Stable channel) (arm64)

Has this issue been fixed yet?
-
I confess, I don't require more than a single back-and-forth cycle... So, my observations won't be useful.
But do enjoy debating how many levels are expected/implemented. -
@OakdaleFTL me to. But even when this single back-and-forth cycle is broken it is miserable.
-
@rromanov It has never "broken" for me... (Just luck? )

Pressing Control+Tab shortcut faster triggers the issue more often (1 in 10?)
This is also my experience. I use the Tab Cycler, and suspect it has something to do with Control+Tab being released before the tab cycler has a chance to appear. I have not been seen this happen when holding Control so that the Tab Cycler appears.
I just tried going to Settings > Tabs > disable and re-enable "Show Tab Cycler", and the problem seems to have gone way... at least for now.
-
@victorlin I will try that and report back if the problem persists.
-
@cenon415 Update: The issue is still present. This is a screen capture showing the problem. screen capture
-
@cenon415 ok, I don't think toggling Tab Cycler is a solution. But I do think it's telling that the problem only shows when you switch before the Tab Cycler has a chance to appear.
Maybe Vivaldi stores tabs in their visible order, and both the Tab Cycler + MRU tab switching features require some time to compute the MRU tab order. When you switch faster than it can be computed, that's when it falls back to the visible order and the problem occurs.
-
@victorlin Wow! How did I overlook that? It now makes complete sense. All along, it has been working flawlessly, allowing the Tab Cycler to appear in less than a second. Thank you for your excellent response.
-
Bug is still unresolved. Delaying ctrl+tab for a second can work, but it breaks usability and slows down my work in Vivaldi, so it's not a workaround in my opinion.
-
I reported another bug about this VB-104329
-
Since this issue persists, is there any known workaround besides slowing down? tbh I run into this issue on a daily basis and while I love Vivaldi, it is super annoying.
