System freezes, monitors turn black, then refresh after 30 seconds

i7-11800H @ 2.30 GHz
16GB RAM
Nvidia RTX 3070 Laptop GPU
Windows 10 Home 21H2--
Behavior 1
When using Vivaldi with external monitor connected to laptop via HDMI, entire system freezes every 15-30 minutes for about 15 seconds, then monitors shut off completely for about 5 seconds.
After this, monitors turn back on and system goes back to normal. Repeats constantly, can't determine anything that triggers this.
Does not occur when second monitor disconnected.
Behavior 2
In between the freezing, second monitor intermittently turns off and turns back on after 5 seconds. System does not freeze here.
Both behaviors happen only when using Vivaldi, no other combination of apps has produced this.

Hi, @prestonwerner, and welcome to our forums!
The behaviour you're describing is quite odd, and I don't recall anyone else reporting something like this. Are you doing anything specific in Vivaldi when this happens (like playing games or watching videos)? Could you try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Settings > Webpages and see if the issue still occurs? Could there be any 3rd-party software running that could interfere with Vivaldi (like an antivirus or graphics card driver software)?

@pafflick Thanks for your response! Haven't been able to identify a specific pattern that causes this behavior. It seems that disabling hardware acceleration has done the trick for the time being -- I'll give it a bit more time to be certain.

You would Try:
ReEnable HW Acceleration
Enable
chrome://flags/#ignore-gpu-blocklist

I've had a similar thing happen on occasion but never thought it was Vivaldi that caused it. IIRC when it's happened i've been in another application but Vivaldi ended up being the program that ended up crashing.
Will need to check things out further if it happens again.

Why such old version? Current Stable is: 5.6.2867.58
Do you use latest NVidia driver from NVidia web site? If yes, had you checked https://www.nvidia.de/Download/driverResults.aspx/198401/en-us , read the "Additional Information" tab with "Game Ready Driver Release Notes (v528.02)" PDF? Perhaps such freezes/black screens are known.

Have been holding off due to all the address bar issues in the recent releases.
