create new Bookmarks, with choice of destination folder
-
Trying to get a handle on too many tabs. I had pretty much stopped using Browser Bookmarks since Kaylon Powermarks went end-of-life around 2008. Briefly, Powermarks tried to be browser agnostic and stay compatible with major browsers, so served to store bookmarks independently of any browser or profile. Even better, creating a bookmark resulted in a prompt to add as many tags as you liked, making Bookmark folders irrelevant. Instead I could just search all bookmarks by typing a few characters or tag-words. It also saved create-date, last-visited, and much more. Would love to see something similar, even if just global to Vivaldi Profiles. Single bookmark db: open link in profile of my choice.
A lot of my, too many tabs, are actually back-burner projects I hope to continue one day. They could easily go in a bm folder. Problem: the only way I can find to create a bookmark and then put it in a specific folder is to use the Bookmark Panel, right-click the folder, and click Bookmark Active Page. Also note, the 'A' in Active is underlined, implying ALT+A might select this option, but it does not. Even if it did, how to keyboard navigate to Bookmarks Panel and then to desired folder. It's just too tedious. If I'm using CTRL-PgDn to scroll through tabs, and want to bookmark the tab to folder HomeAutomation. I could do CTRL+D, but then I have to navigate to the root bookmarks and move it. Am I missing something? Hoping for something more like a save file dialog, where I can begin typing a foldername to quickly get to desired destination. Thanks,

while it's mouse intensive, I found I can select multiple tabs and drag-n-drop on a Bookmark-folder.

@s0hughes Hi - IMO Vivaldi has by far the best bookmarks management in any browser today.
But like anything complex, there's a bit of a learning curve, especially since Vivaldi does so much more with bookmarks than just plop them in a bookmarks bar and that's that.
Please read:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/bookmarks-speed-dial/bookmarks/Quick Commands are a great way to search your bookmarks:
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/shortcuts/quick-commands/Creating nicknames for your most used sites is also a good idea.
Also note, the 'A' in Active is underlined, implying ALT+A might select this option
No, it means hitting just
A
will select it. Hitting Alt will close the context menu (as it's the trigger for the V button menu).how to keyboard navigate to Bookmarks Panel and then to desired folder.
I usually keep the panels hidden. So I press
Ctrl+Shift+B
to open the Bookmarks Panel (combo can be set in settings). Or if I was using the bookmarks panel already when I closed it, just pressF4
to toggle the panels back on. Then I use the arrow keys to navigate to the folder, and use the keyboard context/menu key (most keyboards have this) on the folder and pressA
to add the bookmark.Unfortunately, what's missing from the bookmarks panel is activation by folder first letter, so I could jump to say "Music" by pressing
M
. I believe this used to work, so currently it's just buggy. What I do most of the time though, is use the Bookmarks Menu.
Alt+B
will open the menu, then I can press sayI
for Internet,B
for Blogs, and simply select Add Active Tab. Much faster IMO, although I suggest moving the Add Active Tab entry to the top of the list in Settings. If you want to get some serious organising done, open both the Bookmarks Manager and the Panel, then you can easily drag and drop between the two to organise. Or use an undocumented "feature"; open two Bookmarks Manager tabs, tile them and get a powerful interface to organise stuff
Note: there is currently a bug that causes bookmarks to not properly update when moved or added, and you might need to close/open the folder to see the changes. I hope they fix this one soon, it's a big drawback.
I rarely if ever use
Ctrl+D
, unless it's to edit an already existing bookmark I just created, to remove useless long Titles for instance, that a lot of sites add. -

Make sure to take a look in the Keyboard section of the settings, there's a "Bookmark Selected Tabs" hotkey (I use Ctrl+Alt+D)
If you search settings for "bookmark" you should find the relevant hotkeys.
Also make sure to set/learn the "Focus Panel" hotkey. Very useful for moving focus from page/address bar to panel for instance.
You can do most everything in Vivaldi with keyboard hotkeys once you learn them and customise them to your preferences.
