Bookmark Bar Drag Drop Issues
-
I have been having issues with the bookmark bar while dragging and dropping new webpages. I am able to add new entries on a fresh launch, but doing so after an extended period results in no visual update to the bar. While using add active tab to a folder, it will usually update, but sometimes this feature doesn't either. In most cases, if I relaunch the browser then the icons will show, though this is not always the case. The longer the session, the worse it gets until losing functionality. This issue has persisted through several Vivaldi updates.
I have followed the general troubleshooting methods
Have tried new profiles, reinstalls with cleaning of system files
Windows 10
Windows Defender as antivirus
Malwarebytes Windows Firewall Control
Extensions: Ublock Origin, Microsoft Editor, both installed and uninstalled
Set to bookmark Icon only.
All cookies enabled
Adblocking Disabled
2 monitors, often each with their own browser window -
Same here, I posted about it 16 days ago in the German Sub forum

Hello,
no idea if this is a bug and describing it is a bit difficult. I'll try.
Vivaldi 5.6.2867.46 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision 3a406e4326cd62dfa6a66df62d801abd795643df
Operating system Windows 10 Version 22H2 (Build 19045.2364)
JavaScript V8 10.8.168.22
User-Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/108.0.0.0 Safari/537.36Error occurs also with a new profile, without any extensions or changes of the settings.
If Vivaldi runs for a while (so far tested with 2 windows), I get these errors.
A new bookmark, which I want to add by dragging the tab to the bar or by right-clicking, is not displayed in the current window, sometimes in the second. If I open a new window, it's there.
If the bookmark is displayed immediately, it is sometimes missing in the newly opened window.
If I delete a bookmark, it doesn't disappear in the current window, but in the second window (not always). If I open a new window, the bookmark is gone.
I think that's due to an extension, but since this also happens in the new profile, it's probably not because of that. It was already under Vivaldi 5.5... like that. I don't know if it was there before that, I just installed it recently.

@scorpie Will do some testing with a single window open on one monitor. Sounds like it may be an issue with multiple monitors/windows?
-
I can try, but just in some hours as it is about 1 AM

Couldn't repeat my problem after an 11 hour session of common use limiting Vivaldi to one window and monitor. I have had other issues with the initial setup of one browser window per monitor with dragging and dropping tabs across windows. May be able to get around the bookmark bar issue by using a different profile per window, but that is not ideal.

@Nebouxi
@scorpie
Such happens only on your multi-monitor systems or with single monitor?If yes, go toto Vivaldi's bug report page to inform dev team about such issue.
Thanks for helping to make Vivaldi better.

@DoctorG I have two monitors with different resolutions. I haven't tried with a single monitor setup. I will go ahead and submit this issue to the bug report page.

I switched off one monitor (via win+p) and the problem still exists, with 2 vivaldi windows next to each other in the foreground and one in the background.
After adding a bookmark to one of the foreground windows it was added to the other two. But after a while it was only shown in the other foreground window and not in the background window anymore -
@Nebouxi Go toto Vivaldi's bug report page to inform dev team about such issue.

@DoctorG will do in a while after some tests
@Nebouxi
I wanted to make a vid of the problem, and for that I deleted some private bookmarks from the bar and all bookmarks from the speed dial page. I also remove a addon icon from the addon bar, the addon itself is still active.Now I'm trying to reproduce the issue for hours, but everything works. Then I added 3 other bookmarks to the bar to have the same amount (18), like before. Still no luck, everything works until now. Maybe a problem with the speed dial page. Totally strange to me.
Can u try it with less bookmarks in the bar and an empty speed dial
Edit:
I changed the startpage to speed dial and back to my own startpage and now I have a white flash.Edit 2:
My bad - the white flash has to do with a windows setting I changed recently. I turned off "Play animations in windows" which is under Visual Options. -
@scorpie I will try to test this out tomorrow.

@Nebouxi
It show the problem better. Is it like yours? About 30mb to downloadhttps://drive.google.com/file/d/1azltXvkN5B-ErhaIGEzh03MyNIpUbgwt/view?usp=sharing

@scorpie I haven't gotten around to testing under a new profile with an empty start page. My issue has mostly been solved by just limiting my browser to on one window. While using my browser differently, I does look like I have similar issues displayed in your video. It appears like a display issue, for the most part, but it does eventuate to the point where new bookmarks fail to register while dragging to the bookmark bar.

@mib2berlin A long session in regards to several hours of normal use. May be possible to reproduce similar results in a shorter time span by opening more tabs/videos/bookmarking etc. Don't have an accurate estimate on how long it takes to start having issues.
-
Hi. I have a similar problem. Doesn't update bookmarks when adding a new one, dragging and dropping or editing an existing one. It only refreshes after reopening
-
mib2berlin
Mostly within 1 hour with a vivaldi window on each monitor, longer with 2 windows on one monitor.

@Nebouxi @Kseno @scorpie
OK, I made a 3 hour test session on two displays, my setup:
1920x1080
1280x1024
Windows 11 Pro 22H2
AMD Ryzen 7 4700G with Radeon Graphics
Driver 22.11.2
Hardware acceleration = On
Animation = On
Ad blocker = Off
Used profile (I use this only for testing, I reset it often, every few weeks)
No extensions
Some settings changed to get it workingI open two windows, one on each display, and open about 20-30 tabs.
Watching Youtube, open and close tabs and add bookmarks to the bookmark bar.
Create folders, move bookmarks, delete some add some and so forth.
All actions are shown immediately, no lag, no restart necessary.I have no idea how a developer or tester can reproduce it.
I would suggest a standalone installation of the same version, sync with installed or bookmark, password export/import from installed version.I'm sorry but I don't want to repeat this on my Intel system, it takes too much time.

Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Thanks for taking the time to test the issue. It's been happening for some time and is an ongoing issue. Have learned to work around it, but it would be great to get normal functioning back.
I hade the same issue with a standalone version that I used for a few months. I made sure to scan my system and delete any profiles, temp files etc before reinstalling.
