Installation fails to update
-
Hi,
I have had some issues lately updating my vivaldi installation from version number 5.6.2867.46 to the latest one 5.6.2867.50. My installation is located in C:\Programfiles\ (for all users). When attempting to update I receive the following error message:
This error also leads to windows no longer recognizing my existing vivaldi installation. Under Apps Windows does not longer offer the uninstall routine, instead I can only remove the entry from the list and that's it. I have to remove all remaining files in all folders to get the pc clean.
After a full wipe and making sure that no vivaldi processes run in the background, I tried to reinstall vivaldi with the new version download. However I can no longer install the application for all users in C:\Programfiles. The same error shown above occurs.
I can only install vivaldi on a different hard drive (custom installation).
Has anyone else experienced this lately and can offer a solution to this? I would like to place the installation to c:/programfiles again...
Thank you kindly in advance.
best regards
Sebastian

@TheAbyss On Windows 10/11 Vivaldi is installed for All Users in
C:\Program Files\
. As update needs elevated rights in such Windows system folder, you should see a Windows system popup (UAC) asking for Administrator password. After tarting Installer you can select Advanced button and decide what you want.
Sometimes broken Updates are caused by security tools as Antivirus or Internet Security.

also I figured out that when I choose "custom installation" and set c:/programfiles/vivaldi anyway as the installation path the application seems to install but I can not run the vivaldi.exe inside the folder. On double click nothing happens. Also after the installation the application does not start up automatically.
I can only run it with elevated privileges.
That was not the case before.

@TheAbyss I do not know about a point "Custom Installation" in 5.6 Installer.
You mean Advanced → Installationtype: Install for All Users?
