Custom Rom 'GrapheneOS' for Andoid devices to get rid of Google completely
-
@Obiwan2208
Hope you are still happy with it and no problems have arisen. -
@ingolftopf I'm quite happy with the choice I made by buying the #Pixel6A to have #GrapheneOS, lots of good things and only a few concessions have to be made for security and privacy.
The bad thing is the apps, the most important (for me) is that I don't have the 360º mode and panoramics (GCam port) it doesn't show me the photos I've already taken. And
I don't have a TTS engine that would be useful for GPS directions.I found a TTS engine without Google dependency, isn't the most awesome voice but is understable and in my language. (for OSMAnd+)Apart this,
% pleased:
Good pics, good battery life...good security, apps behind the line...sun is shinning and an user is happy, what else?Edit: Updated 25/01/23

@Obiwan2208
Thank you for your detailed description. -
Small note, "#Pixel6A", # is not necessary here, does not work here, only on Vivaldi 'Mastodon' https://social.vivaldi.net/
-
The 'Google Pixel 6a' is really a decent one despite being from Google.
It will be even much better with 'GrapheneOS'. -
Is a Custom Rom a good idea, if you want to avoid Google stuff? That feels like tearing down and rebuilding a house, because you want to paint the walls another color.
-
@ingolftopf I will add this chat to my XMPP messenger in case i have to patch my older Android.

But of course.
How else?That feels like tearing down and rebuilding a house, because you want to paint the walls another color.
This can only be meant ironically.

@DoctorG
Unfortunately, GrapheneOS only works on Google 'Pixel' devices at the moment.
See the 'GrapheneOS' room on the open source messenger 'Jabber/XMPP':
xmpp:[email protected]?joinFor other Android devices you have to use another good custom rom.

How else?Change some settings. Install non-Google alternatives to, for example, Google maps.
