Google Messages (web SMS interface) not being remembered
-
Hiya! So I like using the web interface for Messages (the SMS app for Android made by Google). To pair it to your phone looks like this (pretty simple)
But even with "Remember this computer" turned on, every time I close Vivaldi and open it again (which is generally whenever I reboot) it's forgotten the browser and I have to pair it again (gets annoying).
I've turned off every security measure I can find:- Disabled tracker blocking
- Allowed all cookies (including third party)
- Disabled all extensions
- Allowed every permission under the sun, including ones that it should never need
And no dice. Anyone got any idea or can think of something blatantly obvious I've missed?
Thanks

Hi, I test this on Linux, reboot and the pairing work.
Testing on Windows 11, reboot and the pairing work.
I use first my Vivaldi 5.6 version but test this with Vivaldi 5.5.2805.42, too.
I can use pairing in both versions, Google ask me wich version I want to use.
You can test this only wit a clean profile, it exclude all extensions and settings.
The next candidates for blocking are:
Third party security software

Almost certainly a profile thing. Tried across multiple OSes and computers with my profile synced and same problem.
Created a new profile on my main PC, logged in to messages. Rebooted, loaded that profile, still logged in. Is there any way I can selectively prune parts of my main profile that gets synced or do I just have to go for the nuclear option?

Hm, you can test this with the second profile, sync you test profile but enable only bookmarks, notes, reading lists and passwords, for example.
Make a backup of the profile folder "Default" from your test profile.
These are called "Profile 1" or similar.
Now sync Preferences, check if all is working > Sync Extensions.
I bet it breaks the web messager remember the computer.
It will take some time but if the new profile is still working completely synced, you can use it as default profile and kick the old one. There are some settings, speed dial thumbnails and other gets lost but you can copy some from your old profile, saved sessions for example,

Hate to necro a thread (even if it is my own, I've just been going through things lately.
Testing things, it works fine when I sync everything except settings. Is there anything (preferably visible) which could affect it in there?
I have all the Google things in the settings turned on, but I've also noticed the same problem of not staying logged in on several other websites (notably Twitter).
