Download Prompt with Download Again Prompt for PC
-
I was wondering if we can have something in PC where the download prompt would, when I have the same file (or at least a file with the same name) in my Downloads folder, show me two extra options:
- A button to open the file on my computer instead of downloading the file again
- A button to replace the existing file instead of downloading a (1) file, like instead of creating "file(1).pdf, would replace the "file.pdf" I have in my Downloads folder.
It would be very helpful to prevent my Downloads from uselessly cluttered with say "file.pdf", "file(1).pdf", "file(2).pdf" and so on.
I see a similar feature request in Save Opened files in Temporary Folder to prevent said cluttering, but I do want to save the files so that I have offline access, later on, just not the same file being downloaded again and again just because I forgot I downloaded it previously.

I had left a similar comment at this other feature request https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/24127/download-manager/19?_=16670758
But it's nice to see it as a standalone request, maybe it'll be picked up sooner.
I would just add that for me this makes sense both for desktop and for mobile (maybe even more in the latter as the file managers are usually more limited on mobile)

Let me absolutely support this request.
In our work we deal with plenty of files attached to tickets in issues tracking system. In the course of working on these cases, more than once we have to check contents of the attached files. Sadly each time we click on the files, new copy is downloaded, building long list of similar names:file(1).log
,file(2).log
,file(3).log
, &c. This is extremely inconvenient to say the least.
Will you please consider adding a dialog asking if the browser has to download anew or open already existing copy, like it's implemented in some other browsers? -
The only thing that occurs to me regarding this request is that sometimes the same filename may actually be different - some files are generated in realtime in the server, for example, or there may have been an update to the file.
In other cases, a generic filename (like file1, file2) may be used by an entirely different site for a completely unrelated file (although in this case, I think Vivaldi shouldn't even ask - just assume they're flat out different files).
When asking if we want to reopen a previously downloaded file or download a new copy of it, Vivaldi should display as much information as possible for users to make an informed decision about what they want...

@pauloaguia, I've been intensively using other browser where this feature is implemented. It distinguishes files from different sites, I'm positive it's not that difficult for code.
So I give you my word: such functionality is extremely handy. -

@pauloaguia The typical case for me is that I just want to be sure that I already downloaded the file, and in such case downloading it again without prompt does not help very much.
