Login for outgoing server failed -- Outlook
-
I've been trying to get my emails all set up on Vivaldi so I wouldn't need to pull up an extra app to read through them. However, one of them -- an Outlook account I have up solely so my personal email doesn't show up on my XBox account -- has been giving me fits. Whenever I try to connect, it gives me an error message saying
"Login for outgoing server failed. Server responded with: Unrecognized command 'unknown' [BN7PR02CA0015.prod.outlook.com]"
As far as I can tell, though, I filled out the outgoing server options the way Outlook wanted me to (Listed below).
Outgoing Server: smtp.office365.com
Port: 587
Connection Security: StartTLSDoes anyone have any suggestions as to what's wrong here? I thankfully could make do without accessing this in-browser, but I would still prefer to get this working.

I have the same

Just tested with an Xbox profile.
Try the other option when asked whether you want to use OAuth
- "Use App Specific Password" option
- Type in your normal password
That for some reason just worked fine for me...
(We'll have to look into why the OAuth one fails there. I'll hopefully have an update on that soon)

@gmg just changed from app specific password to oauth and got this error. Since it is not my main account it does not matter for me, but I can confirm it did work when I used the app password and stopped working with oauth.
P.S. In my case the problem solved itself and I no longer get the error using oauth. I did change some settings, like the primary alias so that it matched the username used in vivaldi mail settings, but only later did it start working so I can't state there is a relation.

@gmg I have a similar problem with my work account which is hosted on office365.
We do have a primary alias and a secondary one, but only the first can be used for authentication purposes on the SMTP server (smtp.office365.com). oauth2 works without problem as long as I use the primary alias for both account alias and username parameters.
However, I get a similar "Unrecognized command 'unknown'" error when trying to use the secondary alias with the primary one as username. Under this situation, the oauth2 flow Vivaldi is doing seems to be based on the account alias instead of the configured username. In fact, I've observed that whenever I try to use a new alias to an already authorized mail account, Vivaldi asks me for an additional oauth2 authorization on that alias instead of reusing the already existing one (based on the account username), so I guess the problem is related to that point.

I'm having this issue too, but I don't believe I have any sort of alias that could be causing this issue. If MS requires OAuth, but Vivaldi only has OAuth1, is that the issue? I did successfully login, but it seems it's only the outgoing server that stumbles?

I get the same error with a simple outlook.com account
"Unrecognized command 'unknown'" when trying to send a mail.Strange thing is that it did work for a brief period, I did send a few emails successfully, but now even doing a clean install of Vivaldi does not work - the outlook account cannot even be added, because testing SMTP connection gives the same error at the end of the wizard.
Will try from another machine too...

@feketen
Hello, OAuth doesn't work anymore, I think Microsoft changed something. Disable OAuth and switch to only password works for me.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Ok, it works this way. Thanks.
(Only used OAuth because in the setup wizard simple password was labeled as "App specific", which I haven't enabled yet for this account.)
