DRM is not working
-
The title says it all.
It never worked so I gave up some time ago. Now I need it again and have little hope of having it work because I know how the world works, but anyway,
I have Vivaldi 5.4.2753.51-1 and I can't access DRM content. I also have a number of other browsers and none of them can except Firefox, but Firefox hates ALSA and plays the videos without any sound. Vivaldi doesn't hate ALSA and plays sound, but can't access the DRM content I need.
Is there any thing I can do make DRM work?
Thank you for any assistance.

@LMMV See https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/media/widevinecdm-eme-drm-netflix-amazon-spotify/
The DRM test plays for me in both Stable and Snapshot
-
All the tests give me the same result (or something very similar, I didn't compare all details):
.
..
.Open vivaldi://components Locate: “Widevine Content Decryption Module” Click “Check for updates” Status - Component not updated

@LMMV
Hi, it is maybe not a DRM problem but a H264 issue.
Try:
sudo /opt/vivaldi/update-ffmpeg
Cheers, mib

# /opt/vivaldi/update-ffmpeg Your glibc version is too old to search for a replacement libffmpeg that supports proprietary media

That is your problem!!
Depends on your O.S. version!
See if anything here helps

https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/76172/error-after-updating-vivaldiI just read it and found this gem:
You can stop trying to figure out the underlying root cause. You can stop trying to resolve the reported problem,
because it cannot be resolved.
The Linux Mint release in use is too old.Well, note that DRM works in Firefox.
I also ended up installing Google Chrome. I really wish I didn't have to use it because I seriously dislike the entire company, but guess what: DRM works in it too. Video and sound.
However,
You can stop trying to figure out the underlying root cause. You can stop trying to resolve the reported problem,
because it cannot be resolved.
The Linux Mint release in use is too old.I am old enough to remember a time when the Web and web pages were supposed to be compatible universally. That is ruined forever.
So Vivaldi is useless to me. Why does it even exist? What does it ever do that other browsers don't, maybe even better?
I often tell people to use Linux as the OS and Windows applications with Wine as much as possible. It's what I do. Why? Because Linux applications expire. I have lost many. Windows applications never expire. I have dozens of them, some as old as 15 to 26 years. I still use a dictionary bought in 1994. Excellent dictionary. None of the current garbage has the same quality.
Once again, I am right. Old people know their stuff. It's called experience. Young people don't care because they have no legacy to part with.
Yet.
Sadly, I've never found a browser that would run on Wine. Firefox, Waterfox, Vivaldi and others, all of them fail. I would definitely use their Windows versions if I could.
Thank you for all the attention I've received. But I am giving up on Vivaldi. Honestly, thank you.

@LMMV
Hi, Chrome and Firefox use it´s own proprietary video codecs and they pay fees for it (Alphabet pays Firefox, btw.).
Vivaldi as small company cant pay this and use the free system codecs.
This does not work on Windows XP or other archaic OS.
Your choice if you support Alphabet or Vivaldi.Cheers, mib

I'm surprised that Wine runs with Windows 95/98 apps - but OK!
But I am giving up on Vivaldi. Honestly, thank you.
No problem, enjoy whichever browser you do choose.
