Minimum Supported OS for 5.4?
-
The snapshot posts claim 5.4 works for 10.11+, but the app claims it requires 10.13+ when I try and launch it. Was support for 10.11 dropped?
Also, should the Software Update check detect this and stop offering to install an update in that case?

I also dowloaded 5.4. it is completely unuseable. Can I return to 5.3 ?
If so How to export all 5.3 info - passwords, bookmarks etc?
( I assume it has been written over)
I agree there should be prior notice as to version required.
Or as Chrome & Brave let you download - then gave notice that future updates vs will require macOS 10.13
Now V is unusable.thanks

Downgrading Vivaldi has a risk of corrupting the profile.
The change in minimum OS requirement would be coming from the Chromium version 104 which is what Vivaldi 5.4 is based on. Early snapshots of 5.4 used Chromium 102. Chrome is already at version 104 for their stable, Brave sounds like they will also be using Chromium 104 soon, Opera is getting closer as well.

@JCZorkmid What Mac OS version do you have? If it's 10.12, you can still use the latest version of Firefox.

@tonyd1 said in Minimum Supported OS for 5.4?:
Can I return to 5.3 ?
Even if you can, I wouldn't recommend it! Useing an outdated browser is a good way to get a virus, because your browser won't get securty patches.
You should find a browser that still gets updates on your MacOS version. Or alternatively, update your MacOS.

@Chas4 - Did V skip a version, 103?
Every Chrome based browser I have is at a 103 version.
Anyway - I downloaded Vivaldi 5.3.2679.70 (Stable channel for Mac. #Chrome/102.0.5005.167.
I kept a backup of the defaults folder & replaced the new one. SO my profile is ok. I agree that using older OS's & browsers is a risk. I needed info from my work profile.
(5.4 was a icon with a do not enter logo so it would not launch)You"re right Opera is the only hold out for now.
@Eggcorn - I have 10.11.6 Firefox 78.15.0esr (64-bit) ESR. I would get security updates 2020. thank you for asking & your suggestion.
My choice for a little while will be Opera. So my OS & browsers are ... at the end of the update cycleI did try Linux for 2 weeks and while nice it just didn't fit me. I'm looking for a refurbished iMac One that can be more future proof.
Thank you all

@tonyd1 Vivaldi uses the long term supported Chromium version, 5.3 used Chromium 102, 5.4 uses Chromium 104.
Opera 90 will be using Chromium 104 and it will also drop support for older versions of macOS (it is in beta testing right now).
In the next few weeks about every Chromium based browser will be using Chromium 104 (Edge is already there also).

Just found iCab 5..9.2. for OS X 10.9 - 10.15
In case anyone else is in need of a browser that supports their older Mac OS. it's from Germany by Alexander Clauss. It's kind of like Safari with a learning curve. Not a Chromium based browser.
The newest version is 6.1.4 for M1 / M2
Cheers
