Monday snapshot – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2753.3

@jaxtraw I can replicate, and also confirm it's been here since a couple last updates.
It's acting like that for every search engine that has search suggestions: Google, Bing, DDG
We are not making this up, while typing the search keywords the list gets populated but if you select with cursor down/up, the actual text copied in the search box it's the one of previous entry.
Only works if selected with mouse click.
Reporting this now, as I'm not the only one seeing this. -

@jaxtraw Unable to reproduce here. Look in Settings, Search and delete any duplicated search engines.
I have the same problem and no search entry is duplicated for me, so that's not the issue for sure.

Please create a bug report for any issues that you see, especially for those that can be confirmed by others. We are nearing the end of the 5.4 release cycle and it will be nice to get as many outstanding bugs (officially) reported and fixed as possible.
2753.3 is clearly not a release candidate, and is still based on a fairly stale version of Chromium. However, Chrome/Chromium 104 is scheduled to get officially released tomorrow... which means that we will be seeing 5.4 release candidates soon... and there will be big pressure to release ASAP if Cr104 contains critical security fixes.

@xyzzy Not a huge issue, but see:
[(VB-89886) Show Context Menu on Double-click is Broken
This is enabled in Mouse settings, and is no longer experimental. I have restarted Vivaldi.
(VB-86895) Collapse (-) Button on Cheat Sheet Overlapped by Scroll Bar
This is a cosmetic issue, but may be easy to fix?
-
@ian-coog: Thanks, yes this is what I'm seeing too.
-
@xyzzy: It's not selecting search engines, it's search suggestions. Sorry I wasn't more clear.
-
Is there a way for new snapshots to not alter my search engines?
-
@mossman: Yes, I noticed that, as well.
Thanks for the themes fix, I'm enjoying full-color browsing again.

Anyone else's side panels broken?
If I open Vivaldi, the side panel arrow is there and I can open them to access to my bookmarks and what not (panels on the right side)
My settings :
But the moment I put a youtube video in fullscreen, the side panel's arrow disappear, I can no longer open the side panels, not even through the main menu > View or by pressing F4. Nothing works. It's just... Gone.
Closing Vivaldi and reopening it makes it work again, until I watch another video on youtube in fullscreen. Also, this weird thing. That's way too many bings.

Confirmed, but does not occur if Show Panel Toggle is disabled.
Please see How to Report a Bug.
Delete the duplicate search engines in Settings, Search.

Why a person who doesn't want to have problems with Vivaldi every time uses snapshots and complains all the time about problems?
Because of hope that next snapshot will fix the bugs, which make browser usage painful. (Releases have severe bugs too if you don't know)
Instead person gets even more bugs and, sadly, only thing which he can do is to write complains. Because Vivaldi development is not open. Bug reports are mostly ignored, pull requests are not available and even if they were, single person can't solve problems faster than developers make them - rate is too high. -
@Vort Software has bugs, even so-called stable versions definitely have bugs, though only rarely are they severe. Serious bugs are patched a.s.a.p.
In the case of Snapshots, bugs and regressions are to be expected. If not, there would be no point releasing Snapshots to the public.
The expectation is that those who volunteer to test Snapshots will report issues so that they can be fixed.
Complaining achieves nothing. It just irritates other testers, and sparks off-topic discussions like this current one. Try to understand how testing works, and help the Vivaldi Team with constructive criticism.
-
@Pesala Great to say!
-
@Vort Please report bugs to Vivaldi bugtracker.
We, the internal testers, try to reproduce issues.
Sometimes (on different hardware or OS, without extensions etc.) we can not reproduce such issue. Ans sometimes the issue was gone in Snapshot or internal Daily version, that will result in closing such bug report as "Can Not Reproduce". -

Maybe RCEs are patched, I don't know. But for me even hangs and crashes are severe, because they lead to loss of user data. And as I said in previous message, such bug lives in browser for years. Anyone who think that ignore is exaggeration by me, look at that post - zero reaction to it. Same happens for lots of other posts. Someone may say that it is because I report problems here and not to bugtracker, but 1. Now browser have no link for making bugreport (which is a hint about their usefullness), instead it directs to forum and I'm here (surprise). 2. Reporting to bugtracker produce the same result - bugs are not fixed for years (VB-19882, VB-30234, VB-45651) and there are even less feedback about problems than here on forum.

Sometimes (on different hardware or OS, without extensions etc.) we can not reproduce such issue. In that case you need to contact author of bugreport and ask additional information. This is why (in theory) e-mail field of bugreport is needed. Now not only such feedback is absent, but even report author is not notified about failed reproduction.

You've been here for a while now, so you should know better that this is not the case.
On the contrary.
But that's how opinions differ.Thank you for the update.

That's the way I work with bug tracker.
But there is no need to hijack this thread to start a discussion about Vivaldi bug tracker and interaction between reporters and tester/dev team. If you need to, please start a own thread.
I am awaiting your bug reports. Yon can contect me by chat if you want to give me the bug numbers, i will check what went wrong with your reports.

This bug is still a constant annoyance. Has it been confirmed?
-
