Solved Speed Dial - tiles disappeared
-
Dear all,
I think since the last update all my Speed Dial tiles are missing. I am using Vivaldi 5.3.2679.70 on my MacBookAir - also newest version.I have Sync enabled in Vivaldi and backups have been done automatically.
Not exactly sure how it works to get all my tiles back in Speed Dial and ask for your help.
Thank you,
Uwe -
@UweTheSailor Check your bookmarks, for instance I have set a folder under Vivaldi as Speed Dial.
If I right-click that folder I can do:
You can have several folders assigned as Speed Dials. Any folder can be a Speed Dial.
I suspect somehow the assigned folder on your system was "lost". But hard to know without seeing your screen. Some screenshot might help.
By default there is a standard "Speed Dial" folder assigned under the root bookmarks:
Note the Speed Dial icon overlay on the folder.
Unfortunately the documentation does not explain this properly...

@UweTheSailor Hi - by "tiles" do you mean the thumbnails images for the dials, or the dials themselves?
Speed Dials are just bookmarks in a designated bookmarks folder. Possibly with Sync on another machine using a different folder, these can be changed, but the bookmarks will not be gone.
Check your bookmarks and make sure the correct folder is set as Speed Dial folder.

@Pathduck apparently they are called tiles - I don't mind, either way, what was there before is now missing.
I don't know how to "set to the right folder" or how that works, as things got messed up after update.
If I'd know, I do not need to post a question.
Thanks for your help,

Dear @Pathduck OK got it! Thanks for that! I wonder how it is possible that Speed Dial disappeared in the first place and also why it is not possible to restore via backup (sync)?
However, I did find a workaround, created a new folder and simply marked as Speed Dial, as you mentioned.
This worked fine. -
@UweTheSailor Good!
Are you sure your old Speed Dial folder is not somewhere in your bookmarks?
I suspect maybe Sync has messed things up, it could happen I guess...
Remember that Sync is not a backup. If you for instance delete a folder on one device, Sync will happily sync that deletion action to every device and the folder will be gone everywhere.
-
@Pathduck good point, I use Vivaldi only on one device and thus sync is probably not what I need. Anyhow, I searched deliberately to find my Speed Dial folder and did not find it... I assume the update must have messed up something.
