Fixes for recent Windows issues – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2741.3
-
@Gif2D said in Fixes for recent Windows issues – Vivaldi Browser snapshot 2741.3:
SSL 2.0 and SSL 3.0
Disable, they are useless these days.
And i asked a Vivaldi server admin, he said that on Win 7 the program winsparkle is used as updater and this uses Windows TLS settings and SSL certificates from Windows system certificates. And updates work on Win 7.
Perhaps some security tool on your side creates these disturbances?

@Gif2D At least according to the information I find on the internet,
Internet connection error 12157
means that "The application experienced an internal error loading the SSL libraries.".As far as I know, our
update.vivaldi.com
domain should work fine from Windows 7 as long as TLS 1.2 is enabled. If it doesn't work despite TLS 1.2 being enabled in your internet settings then I'm not sure what the problem could be, but I'm hoping we can figure it out.
I'd be curious to know if you are able to open https://update.vivaldi.com/update/1.0/win/appcast.x64.xml in Internet Explorer, and if not, perhaps there is a more usable error message there.
-
@thomasp It did open, the result is below:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.

<sparkle:releaseNotesLink>https://update.vivaldi.com/update/1.0/relnotes/snapshot/5.4.2741.3.html</sparkle:releaseNotesLink> <sparkle:deltas>
</sparkle:deltas>
<sparkle:minimumSystemVersion>6.0.9999</sparkle:minimumSystemVersion>

For a complete story, the error above was displayed just once, not on a regular basis.

@Gif2D Obviously, you simply need a proper Antarctic Solution...
-
@guigirl as tempting as it might be, I'm not jumping yet to Linux.
-
@Gif2D Aw ... but then it'd be Friday, every day!

Major problem (for me) since the last stable build - whenever I open in background a page (and I do that a lot) the address bar is selected by default and it's necessary to use ESC and then do the usual page scrolling. I don't know it it helps, the "select address on activation" was enabled/disabled, to no effect.
-
@zavalita2002 Been discussed a lot (nearly to death) several places, in this release thread and the previous ones.

@Pathduck Wow, never knew that setting, probably new. Now everything works just fine. Never thought Vivaldi people would push this customization philosophy that far, though
