@giannilupindo no, my mistake, I did not equate the two posts.

@hderham said in Change POP to IMAP:
My current prime account on iinet is POP (very Historical thing). I wish to have the advantages of IMAP in this account, as I have for my other secondary accounts which are all IMAP. I am unable to just change the server as is pointed out above. Could I perhaps rename the primary account to "primaccount2", start a new account "primaccount" as an IMAP then make the new one the primary account?
Consider discussing the matter with iiNET as they maybe able to suggest a more straight forward process for upload your locally store (POP3) emails; if you have webmail it may also be worthwhile checking to see if the local emails still exist on the email server, i.e. POP3 download them but did not delete them from server

I did discuss it with iinet. I backed up the mailbox database to another disc and verified it was identical. I deleted the POP box. Then I started a new mailbox with the same name and same password, but as an IMAP. I copied the database back to its original position; verified in Vivaldi that the name and position were correct. However, all older emails are not seen in Vivaldi mail, only the newest ones even though the database is there. I can only access all my older emails via iinet webmail. Any thoughts?

Can you elaborate more on iinet's advice and what was involved in the backup and restore process.
Also confirm that Settings > Mail > Panel > Show Unsubscribed Mailboxes is selected and that any grey text folder names listed under Custom Folder or All Accounts > account name are subscribed to by right clicking on folder name and selecting Subscribe from pop-up menu.

Correction:- the older emails have also disappeared from iinet webmail. However I still have the Vivaldi email database, but don't know how to access it.

What advise did iinet provide?
-
They told me to delete the POP mailbox account using Vivaldi and start a new one as IMAP, also using Vivaldi. (which I did)

Make sure you have up to date backups of your emails then consider the following method to restore the missing messages to your IMAP account on the server:
-
open your operating system's file manager, locate the backup made of your Vivaldi's Mail storage location and then search it for files with an extension of .eml
-
If iinet's webmail client supports drag and drop then continue to step 4 otherwise download and install Thunderbird or another email client that supports import of eml files; this is required because Vivaldi does not currently provide this functionality
-
create a new account to access your iinet account via IMAP in Thunderbird
-
sign into webmail or open Thunderbird
-
position windows such that webmail / Thunderbird and file manager are visible at same time
-
in file manager select a small group of *.eml files, then drag and drop to folder in webmail / Thunderbird
-
confirm in Vivaldi email client that messages appear as expected
-
repeat the process of dragging and dropping in small batches of .eml until all messages are imported
If instructions are unclear or instructions specific for operating system are required then post back here.

Thanks Yojimbo. worked like a charm (I already had Thunderbird in my Linux partition. Now at least I understand the organisation and process better.
Cheers
