Mail Panel Automatic Open/Close Not Functioning with CTRL+Tab Keybind
-
I found a bug where the mail panel will not automatically appear or hide when using keyboard binds to navigate between tabs, but it will work when using a mouse to click and select a tab.
For example, Mail open and another tab open, if the sidebar is closed on the secondary tab and I click on the Mail tab with my mouse, the Mail Panel will open. Then, if I click on the secondary tab with my mouse, the Mail Panel will close.
However, in the same example, if I'm on the secondary tab and use CTRL+Shift+Tab to navigate to the Mail tab, the Mail Panel will not open. Similarly, if the Mail Panel is open on the Mail tab and I use CTRL+Tab to navigate to a secondary tab, the Mail Panel will not close.

This feature is kind of buggy. I listed some other bugs here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/76573/bug-mail-panel-not-hiding-when-minimising-mail-tab/7?_=1656193769465
buyt do nto hesitate to file this specific bug - it might have a different root cause.
I think all of them would be solved by incorporating panel into mail tab and redoing mail panel to actually be usable on its own as documented here: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/62099/separate-mail-from-panels

@calebtimms However, I just tried to replicate it exactly according to your instructions and I cannotm mail panel opens also when I CTRL+TAB to it. What version of Vivaldi are you on?

@felagund
Hmm that's very strange. I'm on Vivaldi 5.3.2679.61, but I still can replicate the issue using CTRL+Tab to navigate between tabs. Whenever I use CTRL+Tab instead of clicking on tabs with my mouse, the side panel will stay in whatever state it was before the CTRL+Tab action.This means if the side panel is closed and I CTRL+Tab to Mail, it stays closed.
If the side panel is open on Mail and I CTRL+Tab to a different tab, it stays open. -
And your settings are like this:
