Can't delete a Vivaldi User Account
-
Steps to reproduce
- Click on User icon > Manage People
- Select the Uer Account I want to delete (precondition: more than one account should exist)
- Click on "Remove Person" button
What should happen
- An Account deletion process should start, ultimately removing the selected account
What happens instead
- Vivaldi freezes until forced to quit manually (20% of cases)
- Vivaldi crashes (80% of cases)
- In both cases, after restart all accounts are still present, as if nothing happened.
Configuration
- Vivaldi 5.3.2679.55 (Stable channel) stable (64-bit)
- Revision 8eade5e5617c74da06a81aef286d8930cb8698b3
- OS Linux
- JavaScript V8 10.2.154.8
- User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/102.0.5005.125 Safari/537.36
- Command Line /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable --enable-crashpad --flag-switches-begin --flag-switches-end --save-page-as-mhtml
-
@tomica The crash is a know issue, a working fix was internally for 5.4 done.
I hope we will get a public Snapshot or Stable the next days. -
@DoctorG This still happens as May 2023. Version 6.0.2979.18 (Stable channel) (64-bit) on Windows 11.

@Warayra I get sometimes a freeze, a new and already known issue.
in Settings → General → Close and Exit try to disable confirmation dialog on exiting Vivaldi and closing window, close Vivaldi and start.
Tell me if this helps. -
@DoctorG Well, well, well. It works like a charm! Thank you very much.
-
@Warayra Fine.
-
This is happening to me as well on Win10.
Vivaldi version 6.2.3054.3 (Official Build) (64-bit)The browser freezes and doesn't allow me to delete the profile.
Exit dialog options were both disabled.
-
@rojo I can not reproduce it.
How do you delete the profile? Some steps, please. -
Click on the profile icon on the top right > manage people > click the profile I want to remove > remove person
-
@rojo Disable for all profiles you use in Settings → General → confrmation when closing window and exiting Vivaldi.
That helps. -
@DoctorG Nope, same problem.
Is there a way to delete a profile without using the browser itself?
Maybe deleting a folder and editing some config file, whatever? -
@rojo
Hi, you can move your default profile to a save place and delete the complete User Data folder on Windows or the vivaldi folder in .config on Linux.
Start Vivaldi, close it, remove the new profile "Default" and copy this folder from your backup to the vivaldi folder.This is a description how to move your profile to a different device but it show where all the folder are and which file does what:
