Solved Issues with changing the default search engine after update
-
Same here. Can't choose search engine.
If I force it by choosing another search engine with checkbox 'Default search' it doesn't save at all. Nothing changes. -
i had the same issue... i found the only way to fix it was in the search settings and had to click "reset search settings to default" then i was able to change to whatever i wanted... i also had to reset the url bar to default because for some reason after the update it wouldnt let me type any URLS in.. i also had to go back into settings and re enable the side panel...
all in all, id say this is the worst update ive had using Vivaldi..

This post is deleted! -
For some reason, overnight, several searches were added to Vivaldi. I was able to remove all of them in Settings/Search but when I try to delete 'Bing' it doesn't work.
Does anyone know how?
Edit: nevermind, I just found out I also had to remove it from "search engine" first and then I was able to get rid of it.
Was this a bad update thing or did I install a bad extension?
-
@Onweerwolf You have to choose another default search engine first. Vivaldi must have a default engine.

After the latest update, my default search as changed from Google to Bing... and now when I attempt to change it back to Google in search settings, the setting will not accept Google. What is going on?
-
Same for me but on Windows.
Now my default search engine switched from DDG to Yahoo and cannot change it -
@WildEnte I updated and still cannot change back to Google default, as it seems to have hard coded Bing as default search. What the heck is going on?
-
It happened the same to me, now my default search engine switched from DDG to Yahoo and cannot change it
EDIT
I confirm the following worked for me:- Disable all extensions
- Close all Vivaldi windows and reopen
- Now the default search engine can be changed
- Re-enable all the extensions

@Sandwah did you check the known issues hint on the page I linked to?
"If you have recently upgraded to 5.3 and have a problem where you cannot change search engines (VB-89670), we are still planning a fix for this in a future update. To work around it in the mean time, just disable and immediately re-enable any extensions you have installed that can configure/setup search (.e.g. “DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials”, “Startpage — Private Search Engine”, “Kagi Search”, etc.). Now restart the browser. You should then be able to control the default search engine again in Settings."

This problem is mentioned in the release blog - and there is a workaround described until the problem is fixed.

Thanks very much, that worked.

@mib2berlin Thanks!

I've installed 5.3.2679.38 on my OSX laptop and now I have Yahoo as my default search engine. The settings won't allow me to change the default, nor remove Yahoo has search engine. This is really annoying. Any ideas?

@mib2berlin That worked. Many thanks!

Hi, Since the last update I cannot remove Bing or even remove it as default search engine.
I also cannot remove the search bar from my toolbar.
I'm sensing that this is gonna mean that I have to reset all my settings and lose my synced ones. If this is the case, it would be the third update within a year that breaks my settings and makes me go back to default settings.
Do you guys test things out before rolling out these features?
I even stopped using the unstable version because of the very same reason, but my settings keep breaking and it's becoming increasingly frustrating to the point that I'm afraid of updating anymore.Please give me a solution that allows me to fix this WITHOUT losing my settings and having to reset and re-configure everything.
Cheers!
