Vivaldi 5.3: Tweak and tune your browser with the new Editable Toolbars.
-
@catweazle: I would have preferred that EU prevails in forcing Apple to make their environment friendlier to the developer community. iPad is a great piece of technology, but too restrictive.
-
@Ascar , that is the plan, because the restriction in iOS make that devs are forced to use the WebKit engine for a browser, this makes it necessary that Vivaldi has to be redesigned from scratch to correspond to this.
This clearly violates EU competition law, as this can be done by large companies with hundreds of dedicated developers, but not so easy by small ones like Vivaldi.
This is why I don't like Apple, the lack of compatibility, which also restricts the possibilities of the user, if Apple is only compatible with Apple, while anyone else, Linux, Windows, Android, LinageOS, etc., can use third-party apps without problems for any need. -
How does the search engine sync work? I can't see a related entry on the sync settings page. Is it part of the global browser settings?
I have updated to the latest stable on two PCs. They had different search engines created, but after the update, I don't see a merged list. I can't see the same search engines on both machines. Am I missing something?

Editable Toolbars is very nice! I have removed a Status Bar completely. Zoom buttons and Download button are on the Address bar now!
Drop-down bookmark menu and MMB scrolling (aka autoscrolling) for Linux next?
-
This is what we needed! Such a good update, probably my favorite so far

There already is a way, using an external python script [it adds MMB AS systemically, so you have it available in ALL your Nix apps]. Lemme know if you want the github link.

Thanks, but I am well aware about this workaround
-
@Stardust Oh geez i am so silly. Sorry! Somehow i failed to notice to whom i was replying. Gaaaaaaaahhhhh --- now looking for a brick for my skull.

You are pardoned.
-
@Stardust , I did the same yesterday
-
@Stardust Can't live without my (thin) status bar which shows my Vivaldi build, on which I have moved the download button some snappies ago, because it interferes otherwise with my notifications
Then again I use a 16:10 monitor which has the perfect height and width, not the TV trash format forced into Computers

Can't argue with that(*) - recently had three additional monitors added to the two laptops on my desk... and while trying to configure this behemoth set up, I've confirmed what I already knew: 16:9 monitors are both too wide for practical document/spreadsheet editing and at the same time too narrow in portrait mode! (I also tried twin-portrait but that's a nightmare when it comes to windowing, menus and other user-interface things.)
Our decade old 16:10 desktop downstairs, however, just feels "right" for any task or game.
(*) I can't help wondering if 4:3 was ever wrong for work applications...
-
@mossman
. Certain laptop manufacturers like Lenovo with Thinkpads have begun offering again models with 16:10 screens so maybe this is the beginning of reverting that stupid TV industry trend (plague actually).

IMO it was all downhill after Mr Marconi's Wireless...

Ha ha!
Although I said that slightly tongue-in-cheek... the moment 16:9 screens started appearing on laptops I thought it wasn't an "advancement".
-
we also want opera style workspaces

Nice!
But what about those Screenshot and Page actions buttons? Are you really using it?@npro said in Vivaldi 5.3: Tweak and tune your browser with the new Editable Toolbars.:
shows my Vivaldi build
You can also add days count without updates there
-
@Stardust , in the page actions only the invert filter in some pages, for screenshots I use mostly ShareX, way better, but not so good for making a screenshot of the whole page.
I certainly use these two Vivaldi functions very little, but having the Task Bar hidden makes it nice to have it close at hand. -
Now im still waiting for the day that Vivaldi adds Tabs below Address Bar, its the only customization option missing.

Edit: Oh right - I suppose you mean above the page. Not sure why you'd want that though...
