Vivaldi 5.3: Tweak and tune your browser with the new Editable Toolbars.

@guigirl Well, I read about
%S
some time ago & was too lazy to test it⦠But i've just tested it & it works for me, even from QC. -

How stupid do i feel?
No need to feel that, this was found randomly by @sedrossetti
https://forum.vivaldi.net/post/588704
This is why it's so important for users to dare throw different stuff at the wall and see if it sticks...I think I might've tried testing the same a long time ago, but then there was zero difference between
%s
and%S
. My belief is this is something they're testing but not at a state where they feel a need to document it.There could be a small text beside the URL field saying:
"%s to use URL encoding for POST parameters, %S for no encoding
"
But I suspect this will open more questions than it answersAnd then there's a difference between POST and GET as well in how %s works. For GET requests,
%s
encodes spaces with "+
" while%S
encodes them as "%20
". In short, it's a messWhat they should do is drop the over-complex
multipart/form-data
for regular POST and just use it for Image Search where I presume it's required... just useapplication/x-www-form-urlencoded
for searches. -
@Pathduck Nice info.
IMO it's quite amazeballs -- we've all been using V for yonks now, even bordering on mega-yonks, yet always there's new tricks & stuff coming outta left field from which we learn additional solutions & methods.

POST searches are no longer broken, AND not only do they now work again, they also now work again with Always Search in New Tab enabled
Oh damn. Something that is still broken though, is the webpage context-menu POST search; it is still only generating an empty tab. Oh well, generally i use the search button more than the context search, so it's still a net win for me.

"%s to use URL encoding for POST parameters, %S for no encoding"Yeah, that'd be somewhat more useful then the current cryptic

Feel free to drop in if you have anything to contribute. I'm struggling to consistently reproduce it...

And like you, I hardly ever use the context menu search... Once text is selected, it's much faster to do Ctrl+C, Alt+D, type keyword, Ctrl+G

What? Just the typing would take me twice than selecting the search engine

Well, i've just finished inspecting it once again, but i'm damned if i can find any of those buttons on my mouse.

Well, I guess it depends, just takes a long time to scroll through that huge list to find the one I want to use... current count 64. At least it's better for avoiding Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
