Macbook Pro running hot on Vivaldi
-
Watching YouTube and scrolling web pages results in high CPU load, fan running, and a significant hit on battery usage.
This still occurs with a reinstall (no sign-in) and with all extensions disabled.
Repeating the tests on Firefox & Chrome (with extensions still active) shows no overheating
This has been happening for at least a year - I assumed it was normal.
I've seen other posts on this but haven't seen a resolution. I'd like to keep using Vivaldi but the difference between browsers is really significant.
Vivaldi 5.2.2623.46
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
2.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

@sjk1000 this is not normal.
Have you really disabled all extensions?
Do you have many?
Possibly delete them all.Have you already tried the latest "Snapshot"?

@ingolftopf I'm unconvinced that the browser is the culprit; but I have to confess: no other gets quite the workout I routinely give Vivaldi... (main window holds 200+ tabs in various configurations -- stacked, tiled, shuffled, panels, etc; memory usage and processor load don't seem to vary much ). My fan is. I suspect, defective... But I'd be interested to hear about side-by-side comparisons --V/Chrome, especially; but V/Firefox too.
Do freezes occur prior to significant rise in temp? (And of course is video decoding/buffering a noticed preceding task being performed? (Or is it just length of use?)
Since Chrome is the closest relative to Vivaldi, that's what I'd test first.
Collecting my thoughts, to sum up:
Is it usage, up-time, or systemic? -
What resolution on Youtube are you watching the videos at?
