Extensions' keyboard shortcuts don't work
-
I really hope they manage to fix it soon. This is literally the only reason why I'm currently not using Vivaldi.
-
Hello
I want to use a keyboard shortcut for an extension (specfically, I want to use Ctrl+Shift+L to auto-fill forms with Bitwarden, as I could in Chrome) so I tried to type in
vivaldi://shortcuts
andchrome://shortcuts
as it was what was working on Chrome, but the page is broken.
How can I achieve my goal of attributing a shortcut to an extension ?Thanks and sorry if my request has already been asked, I searched a bit and didn't found an answer
-
Hello, i use bitwarden on vivaldi but shortscuts with extension dosen't work.
Do you have idea ?
Sincerely, -
@ClaYMan01 I do not use Bitwarden.
I know, that can happen Vivaldi shortcuts interfering with extension's one.
Have you seen https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/69541/guide-make-extension-keyboard-shortcuts-work-windows-10-11? -
@pafflick I read your answer a while ago, uninstalled Vivaldi but after a few months with Opera/Brave, I think I have to say this: did you consider that your answer doesn't make much sense? Your audience are more-that-average internet users and it's not impossible to imagine them relying on keyboard shortcuts in their daily workflows. I literally can't use tools that don't have good shortcut support!
Nevertheless, thank you for your work and making Vivaldi free to use!
Cheers,

I hope Vivaldi team managed to find solution for this soon.
Temporary solution to make it global doesn't work for me because it will override shortcut on other application too

it will override shortcut on other application too
there is a workaround for this issue:
- Set an obscure global shortcut in Vivaldi that no other application uses
- Use your favorite keyboard remapping tool (AutoHotkey Win / Karabiner Mac) to bind a real convenient shortcut to this obscure one, but only if Vivaldi window is active
This way your real convenient shortcut will continue to work in other apps as is and will not be overriden
-
@eugenesv Thank you, Set an
obscure global shortcut
is works, but I prefer same shortcut as I use multiple browser daily. The 2nd option might work, but I don't like using 3rd party to manage my shortcut keys.
I hope the team will find reliable solution

it's not a second option, it's the only one with two steps :)! The obscure shortcut is needed to map the real shortcut to it (but only in Vivaldi), so the actual shortcut will be exactly the same shortcut as you use in multiple browsers and the obscurity of the first shortcut prevents it from any conflict with anything useful in your other apps

Then you'd be very limited as 1st party shortcut management is unfortunately rather poor in general
But ofc up to you -
Issue still persistent. Very annoying. Considering switching from Vivaldi because of this. I must use several browsers at the same time.
-
Any reason vivaldi would be having an issue with these. They work fine in my chrome browser as they should.
-
I only have a few extensions I use shortcuts for. The keyboard shortcuts that used to work no longer work in vivaldi.
This is a basic chromium feature and it is baffling that any chromium browser would not have this feature working. -
@caseybarx Only shortcuts to open the action popup work as expected. For all others visit the extension page, click the menu button and set the non‐working keyboard shortcuts to global. Only way at the moment.
-
@luetage Unfortunately that option doesnt work. It just says vivaldi and is greyed out
-
@caseybarx Click on the pencil button, input your shortcut, set it to global.
-
@luetage Again, that doesn't work. Unable to set it to Global after inputing shortcut. Vivaldi is listed and its greyed out.
-
@caseybarx You are setting a none
Activate the extension
shortcut, right? You can't change the activation shortcut to global, but the others should be changeable. -
The shortcuts that are not working are "Activate the Extension" shortcuts. They are not activating the extension.
Above it was said that "Only shortcuts to open the action popup work as expected." That is not the case for me. They are not working activating the extension and they used to for some reason.
-
@caseybarx Shortcuts to activate popup work for me, try on a fresh profile with one extension to double check.
-
@luetage No luck. I tried a new vivaldi profile and the activate extension shortcut did not work there. Not sure why it no longer works in vivaldi.
Extension is Gqueues for Chrome
