Cannot change the width of vertical tabs
-
Solution
Fixed this by switching tab stack view modes to compact and back, keeping post for reference
Problem (Solved)
I got myself into this mess at home, and now it's synced to my work computer. I've tried searching the preferences file for the appropriate value to change it manually, but no dice.
Basically, I resized the vertical tabs (2nd level tab stack list) yesterday to be too small somehow.
I cannot pull out the second list, but i can extend the first list beyond these bounds (which i did for this post and now realize i can't undo).
Seems like the second tab list controls the maximum width of the vertical tabs, but it crossed some threshold so that it's uncontrollable (maybe it's negative).
So now I'm stuck with the horizontal tabs but i have enough tabs that that's very unpleasant. Anyone have a solution without having to reset all my preferences?
Thanks!
//MODEDIT: merged duplicated reports. Related issue: Broken tabs bar on the left when resizing

Since yesterday I cannot resize the tab bar anymore, which I have always on the left side. Normally when I move the mouse over the edge where the page content meets the tab bar, the mouse pointer changes to show that I can drag that edge horizontally. The mouse pointer does not change anymore, and even if I ignore the shape of the mouse pointer and try to grab the edge, I am unable to move the edge to either side.
I have searched the forum but haven't found anything similar yet. Does anyone else experience this? ThanksPS: Vivaldi is up to date, I have rebooted several times. I have closed all tabs and opened a new window, but the issue persists.

@salavma What is your Vivaldi version? Check for updates.
-
@Pesala, thanks for the quick reply. I had checked for updates and Vivaldi's up to date: 5.2.2623.39
-
@salavma It looks like a known issue in the latest Stable build, maybe related to this issue.
Partially fixed in the latest Snapshot,

I have found a temporary workaround, which is sufficient for me for now. In case this issue happens to anyone else, this is what I did to solve it temporarily: In Settings/Tabs I switched from Left to Right Tab Bar Position, which allowed me to drag the tabs again to a usable, wider size. Then I switched them back to Left. Now everything is back to normal, except if I drag the tab bar back to the minimum width. At that point it is basically stuck with no way of dragging it again.
In case I ever need it narrow again, I now know that I have to switch it to the right side when I want to undo that, so that I can drag it to a normal width again. I can then move it back to the left side.

I've been using the tabs on the left for a long time and I haven't been able to expand the size of the tabs for a few weeks. The selection part appears to be "hidden".
The + button to add new tab is hidden, for example:
Then I have to change the view of the tabs and then go back to the left to change the width, but the error quickly returns.
-
Also when Vivaldi is in fullscreen and MacOS Menu Bar auto hide is disabled, it scales the tab section weirdly. It eats the same space from web pages below the shortcut icons.

@salavma Thanks! Just had the same problem and because of your note, I was able to fix it more quickly. -- dfc

@dfc123 I'm glad it was helpful to you!

Thank goodness it's not just me! This bug has been with me for a couple of weeks now. The cursor is not available to resize the tabs when on the left. By opening settings and changing the tabs location momentarily before switching back to left, does appear to temporarily fix the issue.

@razzraziel It's a bug, with possibly dozens of existing discussions already in the forum, in numerous threads. It's already fixed in Snapshot, so you'll get it with the next Stable update i suppose.
Pls note, my original reply, through my own carelessness, accidentally went to @razzraziel, whereas it should have gone to @nandadias. I have now attempted to correct my silly error. Sorry to both of you.

I'm not a paid employee so that's all I can do. I can't visit numerous threads to check all previous bug reports before posting new one. Thanks for the info.

Since version 5 (standalone install) the vertical tabs have been broken. They lock up and cannot be resized. Sometimes this hack works to relieve the lock-up — in the Settings set tabs on R and again on L.
The vertical tabs is one of the most compelling features of Vivaldi. It was working elegantly and PERFECTLY in prior versions. Apparently, the dev team couldn't leave well enough alone.
Even when not locked up, the tab width is now the same across all windows. If you widen the tabs in one window, they widen in all other windows. That is a completely moronic restriction. Each window has its own use and purpose.
Please bring back the original vertical tab functionality. It was terrific. -
@avelev What version are you using, and on what kind of system? There was a bug like you describe, but it has been long-fixed and I never see it in any of my installs any more.
