CTRL+T doesn't work when a twitch.tv tab is focused
-
Same problem here when twitch chat is in focus. CTRL T doesn't work. Only in Vivaldi.
-
Can we please get some attention for this bug? I think it's a bug since it only happens in Vivaldi. In Firefox, Chrome, Brave and Edge it works fine.
To reproduce you need to be logged in to Twitch.For me it's so annoying that it actually prevents me from switching to Vivaldi as my main browser.
And changing the shortcut to CTRL + N is not a fix, that's just a band aid. -
just change the shortcut to open a new tab to something else than Ctrl+T, why making it harder than it actually is?
Besides, it only happens if your focus is on the twitch chat box, press Tab then ctrl+T and it works. -
@iAN-CooG That's all good, but like I said it's a workaround. Besides that, CTRL + T is programmed in my memory as the New Tab shortcut.
This is clearly a bug, and bugs should be fixed.

I'm running into the same issue of the last two characters being swapped if I press CTRL+T. I thought it could be an extension, but after some testing without any extensions I realised it only happens when you're logged in. So for people trying to reproduce, make sure you're logged in.
Edit: I should also note, I'm using vivaldi on ubuntu, so it's not just vivaldi for windows.

Posting again since I went past the edit deadline.
Now I wasn't able to reproduce the issue with slatejs's demo, but, I did find a line
transposeCharacter: "ctrl+t"
To find this, press ctrl+shift+i to open up the developer console, ctrl+shift+f to do a global search, and search for "ctrl+t". Click on the first result, and then you can click the { } icon to format it to make it readable.
If you scroll around, you'll find mentions of "slate", and you'll also find this transposeCharacter feature in both in twitch's and slate's code. So it seems twitch is configuring slate to capture ctrl+t, but it's still unclear why this is only happening in vivaldi and not chrome for example. But hopefully this further's the investigation for anyone wanting to create a minimally reproducible example.

Thanks for also confirming the issue @jamesnicolas. But since this topic is started back in 2022, and Vivaldi not even confirmed looking into this: I have just accepted that Vivaldi is not willing to fix this issue. I have switched to Brave as my main browser, which does not have the issue.

@Saeverix
Hi, this is a user forum, a user had to report it to the Vivaldi bug tracker.
If it not happen in Chromium browser but in Vivaldi it is a Vivaldi bug, one cant really test this with Opera or Edge.
They fork the Chromium code and do massive changes to workaround such issues, Vivaldi doesn't do this. -

@holynoob
Hm, I cant reproduce this in Vivaldi 6.6.3271.57, running a Twitch tab in the foreground and Ctrl-T still open a new tab.
Anyway, maybe other tester and developer can.
You can ask about the status of a report after some time:https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/27450/what-is-the-status-of-vb-already-reported-bug-issue/
Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
thanks for the link.
just to double check, did you focus the chat window? I don't know if you actually have access to the bug report i made (VB-105432)This is how i've described it in the actual bug report to reproduce
Tested both on Windows 11 and Ubuntu 23.10
-
Be logged in (This bug occurs in anonymous window without extensions too, but you still have to be logged in!)
-
Focus the chat window in any streamers chat
-
Write any text in chatbox
-
Press ctrl + t, intending to open a new tab as is the default vivaldi behavior
(I personally don't see this as a big deal, but someone else in this thread felt stronger about it so I at least figured it should be reported properly and the vivaldi team can make the actual choice whether this is worth spending however much time on, I don't know anything about that)

@holynoob
Ah OK, I don't have an account so my test is not relevant.
The report looks fine.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin I did create a Bug Report after your message, one 31 Januari 2024 to be exact.
I now read @holynoob also created a Bug Report.But the main issue: After all these months I haven't received any status update. Several new versions are released, but none fixed the issue (which does not feel like a really complex issue).
I guess Vivaldi has 0 priority to fix this. For me it's not a problem anymore, I am back to Firefox.

@Saeverix
Hi, I could not reproduce 5 Month ago and I cant reproduce it now.
If you have the bug number I can check but you get only a status update if the report is fixed and land in stable or if is closed.Cheers, mib
-
Hi @mib2berlin,
You can only reproduce it when you are logged in. Just like @holynoob reported in his previous message.
The summary in my bug report (VB-103668) was:- Go to https://twitch.tv
- Login with your account (this is important, when not logged in the problem does not occur)
- Go to a random live channel
- Focus the chat box in the bottom-right corner
- Press CTRL+T
Step 2 makes sure you need to login in order to reproduce the bug.
-
@Saeverix
I created an account and can still not reproduce it on Vivaldi 6.9.3447.37, Opensuse Linux.
I found your report VB-103668, it was closed as "Cant reproduce".
Will check on Windows 11 later.
EDIT:
Work on Windows 11 too, adding Ctrl+Alt+T to open background tabs work either.
Even when Twitch is full screen. -
@mib2berlin thanks for investigating this. It's kinda sad that the Bug System does not send an e-mail to the reporter when it is solved/closed/denied. In the current system the reporter has no idea what happened to the bug report.
The solution to map the new tab shortcut to Ctrl+Alt+T is not usable, since CTRL + T is hardwired in my brain.
Did you make sure to go to a random stream, focus the chat box (bottom right) and then press CTRL + T?
You can even type some text, you will notice the strange behavior where is changes the text in the chat box, it somehow re-orders the characters typed.I will install and try to reproduce with 6.9 myself later today.
-
@Saeverix Bug tracker sends a mail to reporter when bug was confirmed before and fixed. Does not happen for duplicates or non-reproducible reports.
-
@Saeverix
Aha, I just need to follow your reproduction steps, missing:- Focus the chat box in the bottom-right corner
I can reproduce it now.
Hm, I can reopen the report but it would get such a low priority you can wait another 6 Month, I fear.
Click into the page and the shortcut is working again. -
@mib2berlin I still think it's worth to reopen the report. It is an actual bug after all, so it would be great if it eventually gets fixed. It's known for years, so if it takes another 6 months that's no problem.
