Translation target language is Albanian instead of Chinese
-
Feature like "last used" option in translate_recent_target field would do the job, I think.
-
After I select the target language I need when translating, I don't need to select the target language again next time. However, whenever I reopen the translation feature, the target language defaults to 'shqip', and I have to reselect the target language every time, which is very inconvenient.)"

@vwmmw That is known an was reported already as a bug/missng feature to bug tracker.

The translation tool that comes with vivaldi is very good, but there is a small problem that has been bothering me. Why is the default translation target language setting unmodifiable?
That is, every time I use the translation function, I have to re-select it (change the default Albanian to the language I want)-I can't find a place to change it in the settings.
Does everyone think this is a problem?
-
@fowse said in A little doubt about translation tools:
the default translation target language setting
This should be the language(s) you have configured under "Settings/General - Language"
i.e. the "User Interface Language"
although you may select any of "Accept Languages"See https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/translate-web-pages/

@TbGbe Thank you.
I have tested on different PC in the past few days, and it‘s not the problem of interface language setting. I think it might have something to do with Lingvanex's default configuration, but I can't verify.
Expect next releases to notice and fix this issue.
-
@fowse Well, what are your system and Vivaldi versions?
What are your language settings?
There was a problem for Chinese users, see
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/74366/translation-target-language-is-albanian-instead-of-chineseI only mention this because you mention changing from Albanian.
If your language settings are different, then that may not be relevant though.
-
@TbGbe Thanks again. This reply is bingo. unfortunately, I am a Chinese user.
-
@fowse, well, the inbuild Vivaldi translator is good for quickly translate a page to Spanish, but apart of this is somewhat limited.
Because of this I use an Desktop app, Crow Translate (FOSS, Multiengine for 125 languages, also Chinese and if you need, even Klingon), it's very handy, quick, lightweight (~20Mb) and with full customizables keyboard shortcuts and a lot of other features.

@Catweazle Thanks, I'll give it a try. have a nice day.

Sadly still no progress and no dev assigned.

@mahuaer Bad automatic detection is a known issue for the Vivaldi Translator.
Vivaldi team is working with Lingvanex (company which provides the server-sided part of translator), to improve. -
@mahuaer See https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/74366/translation-target-language-is-albanian-instead-of-chinese
the bug VB-92727 is confirmed but there is no process.
-
@TbGbe Ah, you remember the related issue report.

Priority of bug report was increased and trued to contact some dev in internal chat.
