Solved Qwant not available
-
As seen on the release 5.2 of vivaldi for Android, the Qwant search engine seems to be avalaible again on the options but at least for me it is not avalaible.
The version I have is the 5.2.2620.37.
Is there a way to enable the Qwant search engine?
-
Sorry for the confusion. Qwant was added as a default search engine option only in selected countries:
- France
- Italy
- UK
- Germany
- Spain
- US
It's already possible to add Qwant as a search engine on desktop and work on syncable search engines continues as well.

@urimtzf
Hi, do you cant choose it or it is not in your settings?Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
It is not avalaible, here is a screenshot -
@urimtzf
Maybe a dump question but are you sure it is 5.2?
I use the 5.3 snapshot from today and Quant is also available.
You can try to delete the Vivaldi app cache but you will loose all your settings.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
I'm sure, in the "about" tab on settings it says 5.2.2620.37I tried to clean all data of Vivaldi and Qwant is not avalaible yet.

@urimtzf
I am sorry, out of ideas now, maybe an other user steps by to verify the issue.
I use:
Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Lite
Android 11Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
Thanks, no problem -
My update version 5.2 also doesn't show qwant among the available search engines.
-
The changelog did mention it would be for certain countries
[New][Search] Add privacy focussed search engine Qwant, for certain countries (VB-87910)
Unfortunately, it was not specified which countries would get Qwant back as a default, but it seems like your country wasn't one of them.
-
@s_paternotte Maybe itโs only available for a selection of regions.

@luetage Netherlands

I found this post because I was also baffled that the announcement here does not mention anything about any region or country restrictions: https://vivaldi.com/blog/vivaldi-on-android-5-2/ .
I am in Canada, with Vivaldi for Android version 5.2.2620.31 and Qwant does not show.

Could it be that search engine qwant is not added existing Vivaldi apps that are updated to v5.2?
IOW, qwant is only includes in new install? -
@s_paternotte I doubt it, but if you're unsure, you could test this out by creating a new profile. For all intended purposes regarding this issue, a new profile is practically a new install.
-
I cannot find an option to add a new profile in the Vivaldi Android app and I am not prepared to go through the excersice of dumping my existing profile just for the purpose of debugging this possible issue. I gladly leave this to Vivaldi team.

@altcode
I can confirm that neither a new installation bring Qwant as new search engine. -
I am in Australia and I also have no Qwant available either
This is pretty disappointing from Vivaldi - if certain countries are excluded from major updates then it would be nice for us to be informed.
I had not used Qwant before but I like the look and feel of it - it appears I may have to dump Vivaldi however to access Qwant here in Australia -
@vk4ma Edit: Didnโt see this is mobile. Custom search engines are a requested feature and should be coming at some point. But you will also be able to do it with search engines sync, which has already been released to Snapshot once, but was rolled back. Wonโt be long now.

There are a lot of search engines I like to use and are not available in Vivaldi mobile, because of this as workarround, until in the near future is implemented the selection of search engines, I use the feature to covert them in PWAs on my homescreen (open the websearch page of the engine and save it to the homescreen, with this you have a access icon of it in the mobile screen). With this I can use them for the searches and the results open in Vivaldi.

@vk4ma Startpage is similar. I really like Qwant, but fell back to Startpage when Vivaldi dropped Qwant from their partners.
