Solved New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages

@pafflick said in Can't open some internal pages with extensions controlling new tabs:
There's no need to report it again - for any follow-up it's:
VB-85041 New tab extension blocks history, bookmarks, notes and calendar pages
(no progress yet).any update on this? (difficulty of solving or any other info)
it's so frustrating since i use a new tab extension a lot: i have to disable it every time if i want to manage bookmarks -
@urfausto What new tab page extension do you use? I can help you make the workaround URL.

chrome-extension://lnbjajkbekhkgablenknhapphbdbldeh/asset/html/newtab.html

Wow... Solved. Thank you so much.

@smerugu28 That one required a bit more experience. If you haven't done any coding projects, you might not recognize where to look in the folder structure.
Good hunting @juanvase

If you use chrome://bookmarks and chrome://history, those work. They may look like protocol vivaldi:// in the address bar, but using chrome:// works. You can also access the bookmarks and history from Tools > Bookmarks and Tools > History. -
I've installed a styled newtab extention from chrome store these days and toggle the "controlled by extentions" option under Settings>Tabs>New Tab Page, then the history page was unavailable.
When I open vivladi://history,it only shows a blank page.
But once I untoggle this option, history page works again.
It's so confused that settings for newtab page would affects history page. -
@zeroic Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
Unfortunately this is a known bug in Vivaldi. But there is a workaround, I need to know the extension full name and URL.
-
@pathduck Well it's infinity new tab pro,and installed from https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/infinity-new-tab-pro/nnnkddnnlpamobajfibfdgfnbcnkgngh
Thanks for your works -
@zeroic OK workaround until bug is fixed:
- Use URL
chrome-extension://nnnkddnnlpamobajfibfdgfnbcnkgngh/newtab/index.html
(keep in mind that the URL will be different for other extensions) - In Settings > General, set Homepage = Specific Page (URL)
- In Settings > General, set Startup with = Homepage (or what you want)
- In Settings > Tabs, set New Tab Page = Homepage (or what you want)
You can play around with settings, depending on how you want it, for instance you can use another site as Homepage, and instead set New Tab Page to Specific Page (URL). Vivaldi is very flexible here.
//MODEDIT: marked as "solution" for better visibility
- Use URL
-
@pathduck said in History page unavailable if "controlled by extentions" is toggled:
chrome-extension://nnnkddnnlpamobajfibfdgfnbcnkgngh/newtab/index.html
Good idea!History available again.I don't need to install more extentions to get its funtions back.

The bookmarks manager no longer works for me. Has anyone else had this problem?
It's literally just a blank page. {see screenshot}
I love Vivaldi but really need to access the 'manager' or some sort of workaround.
Thanks in advance for any help

@itolyan Do you see any bookmarks in the Bookmark Panel?
-
@itolyan What Vivaldi version are you using and are you running any new tab extension?
-
@pesala Yes the bookmarks panel works but I have a lot of organizing I need to do and the manager is so much better (when it worked haha)
-
@luetage Version 5.1.2567.66 (Stable channel) (x86_64)
I'll double check my tab extensions again. I may have missed something previously.
-
@itolyan A “new tab” extension changes the new tab to something loaded by the extension. You would see it immediately when opening a new tab. There’s been a bug that disabled bookmarks/calendar/notes/history pages when using such an extension. So yeah, check all your extensions and try disabling them. Then report back whether any extension messes with the internal pages and provide a chrome webstore link to it.
-
@luetage It's the "Momentum" extension that replaces a new blank tab. I never thought to check it because the bookmarks manager is a destination/setting, not a 'new tab' (in my mind).
I really like that Momentum extension so I guess I'll just have to disable it when I use the bookmarks manager (or turn off 'new tab controlled by extension' works also).
Thanks for getting me thinking and ultimately finding the conflicting extension.
-
@itolyan Yeah, it’s a known bug, you will have to wait for a fix. And yes, disabling »new tab controlled by extension« is a good workaround. But you might as well install an extension manager extension to toggle extensions quickly, without visiting the extensions page.
