macOS 12.3 Broke Vivaldi and other chrominium based browsers. Any ideas how to fix that?
Hm, what do you mean by "break"? I'm on 12.3 (on Intel) and Vivaldi is working as expected; is this for Apple Silicon?
-
@non-troppo: yes, apple m1. Crash after 5 sec after start, when shown the window and Vivaldi try to render the interface and content.
-
I think the Vivaldi team is following the chromium development cycle: one snapshot per month.
-
@ian-coog If Vivaldi did remove Russian search-engiens and/or sponsored links for political reasons, that displeases me. That said: Vivaldi was, and remains, one of the least political browsers out there.
-
@supra107: Don't worry about the ruble, you'd better keep an eye on the prices of gas, gasoline, electricity and food
-
@arevis2: works here without problems

If Vivaldi is doing this because the current legal climate makes it too risky to have business ties with Russia: That's one thing.
If Vivaldi is boycotting a whole country as a political protest: That's a far more political move than I've come to expect from this company! Worse, It's double-standard. My own country, America, invades and bombs other countries. Yet Vivaldi has American search-engines, such as DuckDuckGo.
I'll be honest: This damages my trust in Vivaldi either-way! If they take this farther, if they (for example) block Russians from installing or updating Vivaldi, I doubt I'll continue to use or promote this browser.

As a patriot of my country, Russia thank you for your objectivity.
But, you should not take the anti-Russian steps of the VIVALDI leadership to heart like that. They themselves are hostages of a political situation. -

@eggcorn Nobody is forcing Vivaldi to make any decision. They are a private company, and can choose who they want to do business with.
If you want to quit using Vivaldi because of "politics" that is of course also your decision.

Vivaldi doesn't/won't take action concerning the citizens of any country. They (for instance) have at least one Russian employee.
-
Problem is...the citizens of russia will be affected by international sanctions. Not all russians are behind it's governments decisions and actions and this applies to all nations of the earth.

I hope so! For now, Vivaldi's cut ties with Russian companies. I hope it goes no father then that, I hope Vivaldi doesn't start targeting ordinary Russian people as the Big Tech companies have.

@priest72 @Eggcorn Any nation (North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Russia, South Africa, Syria etc.) whose government takes action to put itself outside the community of nations exposes its citizenry to the potential economic impacts of that status.
The world community has, for better or worse, adopted the tool of promoting/discouraging trade, rather than military force, to try (with greater or lesser effect) to create a climate where national governments color within the lines.
But it's true, one cannot attempt to steer the behavior of any government without ultimately impacting the citizens of that same country. And the community of nations has decided against a laissez faire approach regarding violence, or the potential of violence, between nations or even against blameless nationals.
Opinions concerning the "justice," "fairness," or "moral defensibility" of any cause will differ widely, even diametrically. Whether to try to coerce this nation, or that one, back onto the path of consensus-opinion least human destruction will always be a political one. All decisions concerning populations are political. That is the very definition of politics.
But ultimately, every population empowers the leadership it consents to. And you can't impact the actions of a leadership without impacting the population which empowers it.
Given that friction between political positions can create such heat, without bringing any light, that's why political discussions are actively discouraged on these forums.

Stop this discussion about sanctions on Russians and other political content. Such content has no place here in this thread!

Which is why I like Vivaldi staying out of politics (aside from things like net neutrality).
