Solved Adding a gmail account to a mail client [windows 11]
-
Recently, i had to upgrade from W10 to W11, and although pretty much (vivaldi related) everything works fine, I'm unable to add my gmail account to the mail client. I'm setting everything up, select either OAuth or app password and the regular sign-in from google pops up (as on the screen)
But after maybe a second or two (if i manage to click on the account i'm maybe getting to like 20% of the loading bar) I'm getting a dead bird, and the window automatically closes even faster (took me a few tries to screenshot it)
Any ideas on what could cause this issue? Already tried disabling the firewall and pop-up related vivaldi settings. Had no issues whatsoever with adding the vivaldi mail account too.
I fully admit to being a noob here, and i'm still fighting with the w11 interface so I may very well be missing something obvious here and there. This should go without saying, given the recent windows install, but i'm using the newest stable version of the browser: 5.1.2567.49, if that matters

Small (and final) update.
Turns out it was something with the vivaldi itself. No idea what, but out of curiousity i simply reinstalled the browser and tried again.
Worked like a charm. The only difference with the setup i made was with the trackers and ads, which i put into "no protection" this time around. Just to be "safe".
So, either it was that option, which for some reason didn't update when i changed it in settings first time around, or it was something else, which simply broke and didn't bother informing me about it.
Anyway, problem solved. Thanks again for your time

Hi, I test this with the same Vivaldi version on Windows 11 and OAuth and got no tab crash.
Any third party security sofware running?
I had problems to add email accounts on a friends PC with AVAST but got no crash, only error messages.Cheers, mib

Not really. I had to make a clean install, and vivaldi was the 1st non-driver app i installed after. The issue started back then.
I do have AVAST installed right now though. Partially as a test to see if i missed some Windows Defender options that could affect it. Still the same outcome. Pop-up crashes, i get the "Server: undefined" error and i can try again.
Tried adding a different, non-google account which resulted in IMAP: LOGIN failed.
Funnily enough. When i tried to add google account without OAuth right now i got IMAP: Timeout connecting to server (after a few runs of invalid credentials despite me copy-pasting the exact same thing a few times). It's still a progress in comparison, though i'd rather use OAuth instead. -

Hm, no idea what happen on your system and Vivaldi, can you reach Gmail with the web client in Vivaldi?
Wild guess, one have to enable the extension "Crypto Token" to log in to Google services but disable it should not crash Vivaldi.
I forgot to mention I use the insider preview on my laptop but Windows 11 stable on my workstation. If I find some time I will try to add a Gmail/OAuth account there, too.
May another Win 11 user steps by, we have some already here.Cheers, mib

gmail.com works without any issues. Logged in and out a bunch of times to make sure. I'm just unable to connect it to the mail client because the sign-in pop-up crashes.
For the sake of it, i cleared up cookies and tried again. Still, i got a crash at the same moment as before. The only difference being i had no accounts to select from and the regular log-in field showed up instead.
Almost as if the issue weren't with the google sign-in, but with the pop-up itself.
Still, thanks for your time.
