Page jumping when focusing comment boxes on Facebook
-
@pafflick I still have the same problem (and I don't have a fancy screen, only 1920*1200. Messing around with zoom factors does not change anything.
-
@tokoloko What are the exact steps to reproduce the problem? I tried it on 3 different screens now, with different DPI and browser zoom settings, and I haven't encountered any issues while using Facebook in Vivaldi. Could you be more specific, please?
-
@pafflick Well - I open Facebook and enter a comment to a posting
From what I read it seems not to be so easy to reproduce. Maybe you can write me, then we can have a teams session and I can show it on my screen. -
@tokoloko I'm afraid you need to be a little bit more specific than that. Do you open the main feed or a page/group/profile? Are you focusing the main comment input field or a reply to another comment? Does the page move while typing or erasing text?
-
@pafflick I open Facebook and am in the main newsfeed. Under some postings there is a input box where I can type a comment. I click in this input box. The the cursor blinks in this box. As soon as I type a letter, then the page scrolls down exactly so much that the input box is just above the upper edge of the screen - so it's unvisible. I can scroll up a little so that I can see the input box again. Then I can type in text quite normally. But: as soon as I hit the backspace key, then this scrolling happens again and the input box disappears just above the upper edge of the screen. I can now scroll it back to the visible area and can continue typing. If I hit the delete key, then it just deletes the character right of the cursor, but it does not scroll.
-
@tokoloko Interesting. Not sure if that's some A/B test that Facebook is running at the moment, but as soon as I focus on any comment field, the post is opened in a modal kind of window, and any scrolling of the page is impossible until the post is dismissed.
Can you reproduce that issue on a friend's profile or a FB page, like https://www.facebook.com/vivaldi.browser/? I don't get these modals there.
-
@pafflick Yes, same behaviour on this page.
-
-
@pafflick Interesting. I just tried in the "guest" profile - and it does not happen in this one! So it seems to be one of my extensions. Or can you guess any other reasons?
-
@tokoloko I'd start by disabling the extensions (all at once or one by one) and refreshing the Facebook page to see if the issue is gone in your main profile (some extensions might still interrupt pages after being turned off, hence at least a page refresh is required).
-
@pafflick Got it. It was the "OldLayout" extension. Maybe others who have this issue use this extension, too?
-
@tokoloko Ah, that would at least explain why did you get the old layout of the page (no focusing on the posts) - it was not Facebook tests after all...

@inadream I decided to do a google search to try and find people having the same problem as I have been having on FB for the past couple of months now. I have been relentlessly trying to resolve this problem to no avail. I do not use Vivaldi Browser; however; do use Microsoft Edge, and Chrome and just recently decided to download Firefox per the suggestion of a FB friend because of the problem I am having... same as you are having. (I was considering downloading Vivaldi next ... but see a bunch of people are having this same problem on FB with Vivaldi when I looked around on FB) Does anyone know if this has to do with keystrokes or FB in general? As we all know, FB is constantly upgrading and changing things.
I type in the comments of FB and it jumps all over the page, it will not stay in the box that I am typing in. grrrr
I have tried to every suggestion on google in different forums to fix this problem and it only makes it worse and more prolonged!
I have google on this problem and we are not the only persons with this problem, it appears a lot of people are having the same problem. Whether they use their cell on Social Media websites (FaceBook) or they use their laptops, computers...
It is now April 7th... this started for me a few months ago. I have a large forum on FB and cannot have this continue for too much longer, as it holds me from getting things done! None of my browsers are working appropriately!

@charmainejensen It's hard to investigate, as it seems to occur only to some users. The most common factor (as mentioned in this thread) has been the use of webpage zoom. The system's DPI settings might be related as well. It could also be an extension. Or there is a bug on Facebook's side - it's hard to tell.
You can do a quick test and install the latest version of Vivaldi as standalone (which is easier to uninstall, if you don't want to keep it), and use it as it is, out-of-the-box (without changing any settings or installing add-ons). See if the issue occurs there too. Perhaps you'll like some of the features that it offers?

Re: Page jumping when focusing comment boxes on Facebook
Hi.... Hope this helps anyone and its similar to a reply on the early part of the topic
I'm using Chrome and have been searching for a solution for months. I noticed someone comment about zoom levels and thought "nah it cant be that simple" so I have just tried it
WOW
My screen is more or less always set to 75% zoom I took it up to 85 100 120 and all of them worked no page jumping with backspace or anything. I then dropped it back down to 75% and boom jumping all over the place. Took it down to 68% and it worked ( but too small) so the fix for me now is set zoom to 80%
Really hope that helps others

@Chap789 Hmmm... have this annoying problem, too, and my zoom was set to 110%, Reading your post, I set it to 100% and the problem seems -- for now -- to have gone away. But it always (months) as been a bit sporadic.
-
@pafflick I have the same problem in Vivaldi, have probably had it for a year or so. I only see this on FB feeds. If I even hit the "Like" button on posts, not just the comment box, the view will jump up 2-3 posts higher. It doesn't do this all the time, but I'd say a good majority of the time. I'm running Windows 10, keep everything up to date.
-
@Chap789 My screen view is kept at 100%. I have this problem. I'll try some other small changes in that setting.
