Solved Weird behaviour on FB
-
Dear all,
For a month or two now I have been experiencing strange things when I use FB: I start typing a comment, then hit Backspace to erase a typo, and the entire page jumps up, hiding the comment field. The same happens when I select the typo and try to write over it.
The Vivaldi version is the latest: 5.1.2567.49 (Stable channel) (64-bit),
Revision aac225a3f1289e4f5f187026098523df71fd79ae, but the same was happening on the previous version, too.This behaviour is very annoying. Any ideas?
TIA,
Alex -
@inadream
I did exactly the opposite, set 125% from 100% - and it worked! O_o
I am baffled, but at least that annoying behaviour is gone.
Thank you! -
@trueash Hello, and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
Sounds like the default "History Back" setting of Backspace is interfering with the site. Go to Settings > Keyboard and find it (or use the search field), then delete it. Or map to something else if you prefer.
I think Vivaldi is the only browser that still uses Backspace for history navigation, and FB probably do not consider it.
I don't have a Facebook account so can't really verify this myself.

Vivaldi 5.1.2567.39 on Windows 7 (and Facebook, other sites too) - backspace working as expected. In input fields delete character, in other situations step back in history.

It is nothing to test in Chrome and Firefox. Backspace key in this browsers is only for typing. For chrome exists extensions Go Back With Backspace.
In Vivaldi work backspace "old way" by default. Thanks god.

@trueash I never had such issues on Facebook, even though I have the backspace key set as "History Back". Try using a clean profile or just remove the shortcut as per @Pathduck's suggestion.
For more information, please refer to the Troubleshooting issues guide. -
@trueash - regarding the weird behaviour on Fb, do you have your Default Webpage Zoom level set to something other than 100% in settings?
I have my default page zoom set to 130% on a 5K screen (5220 x 1440) and last night I discovered that the issue stops if I put zoom back to 100% on the Fb page I'm trying to type on.
The setting is under Webpages:So far it's stopped the stupid issue.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone! I tried them all but nothing worked, unfortunately.
Might as well be the Facebook problem, but other browsers behave just fine, so... I don't know. -

@pafflick
What resolved the problem in my case was setting the Webpages to 125%. I have no idea why and how it worked, but it did.
Very very strange problem... -
@trueash You are most welcome! It was a pleasure to help someone fix a PITA issue.
Also relieved I can keep using vivaldi....! -

@trueash Maybe it's some extension affecting the page? I'm using FB in Vivaldi on 100% zoom and don't experience such issues - the page never jumps when typing. I'm glad it's working for you, so I marked the thread as solved. But if you wish, you could still try the troubleshooting.

Please stop thinking you know best.
That goes also for you, you need a shower of humility.
Backspace as history back is STANDARD since the web browser got invented. Only recently some browsers allow this behaviour to be configured, Vivaldi as well, just use the keyboard settings.
But probably for you it's just easier to use foul language in a forum than spending 2 minutes to actually reading what's written in a settings page.
