Mouse gestures for Windows laptop touchpad
-
I used to own a Macbook pro 2011. I could use Mouse gestures to the fullest on the touchpad.
I then in 2017 switched to a Razer Blade Stealth (late 2017 edition). This too had full gesture functionality on its touchpad. (The touchpad is using Synaptics Clickpad drivers and options)
Yesterday I switched to a Razer Blade Stealth 13 (2020 edition). And now I can not use mouse gestures whatsoever. (This touchpad is using Windows precision touchpad)
At first I thought this was a bug, but reading through a vivaldi forum post (that I have now lost after several factory resets), it seems maybe my Razer Blade Stealth late 2017 edition was just a rare exception to the rule. And that most Windows laptops does not allow for Vivaldi mouse gestures. And when I say mouse gestures, I mean tapping with two fingers as right click, not press down in the bottom right corner of the touchpad for right click.
I am theorising that perhaps it is Windows Precision that stops Windows users from using gestures, and I am wondering if anyone here have a laptop with Synaptics ClickPad instead of Windows Precision, who can test if they too are able to use gestures in Vivaldi like I can on my 2017 Razer Blade Stealth.
Here is a video showing me using the right click, drag down and then up gesture to open a link in a background tab. First unsuccessfully on my new 2020 Razer Blade Stealth with Windows Precision, and then successfully on my late 2017 Razer Blade Stealth with Synaptics Clickpad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlRqh4_n0MA

@kirikirasert My laptop has a touchpad with Elan drivers by default, but I overrode it to have Windows Precision drivers.
Using
2 finger tap to right-click
, I am unable to get the mouse gesture to work. If the right-click is performed by pressing the lower right of the touchpad, then it works. Didn't try it with the Elan drivers.Windows Precision drivers seem to prioritize
2 finger scrolling
over the2 finger right-click
, but even disablingdrag 2 fingers to scroll
doesn't fix it.That does make it less convenient, as it requires a bit of finger gymnastics to perform the lower right press and gesture 1 handed, but it is possible. You could try messing with the touchpad settings under
Devices
in Windows settings, but from a quick test, I wasn't able to get it working. So, while I can't comment on if Synaptics drivers work better, I can confirm that Windows Precision drivers might be causing the issue.

@nomadic I have been working on the issue for 3 days now, and I think I will just end up returning the laptop. It cuts into my efficiency way too much.
I will give Razer customer support some time to perhaps find a solution.
Thanks for trying it out.
