Frozen Vivaldi - Gmail or Avast?
-
Hello,
Since a month ago, I seriously have suffered from drastic delay, especially when receiving email at Gmail and replying immediately. It made even the Vivaldi frozen and network halted. Speciously, it may be related to the Avast recent version or possibly some email extensions or Gmail in itself. But other browsers, Chrome and firefox, have no issues with the same environment.
Has anyone experienced this recently? Or do you have any suggestions?

Hi, I had similar problems on a friends PC with Avast, lagging, problem with a mail account. I try to add a mail account to the Vivaldi mail client but got only stupid error messages.
As I don´t use third party security software since 10 years I first disable Avast then remove it from this PC.
Vivaldi was ten times faster then.
I guess it must be possible to white list Vivaldi in Avast in any way but does not search for it. Chrome and Firefox are "known" from Avast and white listed per default.Cheers, mib

Hi Thanks for your comments.I have always used Avast, but this lagging and being frozen have occurred just since a month ago. So this issue may be related with the current version of Vivladi or something else.
More ideas are welcomed!

@ilp0000 Hi - I use Avast Premium, never had any problems with it and Vivaldi, and never had to whitelist Vivaldi in it either.
The free version might be different. You could whitelist the Vivaldi install folder just to test I guess, but it only stops Avast from scanning the folder. IMO also a bad idea to whitelist a browser install folder. But just for a quick test if the problem goes away.
Are you using any special shields in Avast apart from the standard Web, File and Behaviour shields?
You can also try temporarily disabling the shields for 10 mins and see if the problem goes away.
When you say "receiving email" do you mean on the web site or do you use the Vivaldi Mail client to connect to Gmail?
Do you leave the Gmail web page open at all times and never close it? Gmail is a heavy web app, and relies a lot on cache. But cache can get "stale" and things stop working - sometimes it's a good idea to just close the tab or do a full refresh using
Ctrl+F5
.Please try the troubleshooting steps as well:
