Last supported release for macOS: 10.9+
-
Hello all,
I am brand-spanking new to Vivaldi, today. I don't readily join tech (or otherwise) groups, but after reading about Vivaldi's history, practices, etc., I wanted to be a part of this -- AND to use the browser (if at all possible).
I have an older MacPro (multi-boot setup) on which El Captain (OS X 10.11) is the latest OS it can run. I really want to be able to use Vivaldi on my Mavericks (OS X 10.9) OS, since 10.11 doesn't play nice with the rest of my set-up.
Additionally, I have perused your forums (and site, for that matter) searching for anything that would indicate which standalone version was stable for OS X 10.9. I found nothing specific, but I was glad to find a link to your archive downloads (although, haven't found release notes to the download?).
I just need help with what Vivaldi release dropped support for Mavericks macOS: 10.9+ or better yet, which was the last release to support macOS: 10.9+?
BTW: I am very aware that it isn't prudent to run older versions of any software, but I really want to try Vivaldi and maybe use it (the current version) on other newer machines. (I did read in your help content & forum helps that it's not feasible to "downgrade" from a newer version to an older release, once the newer version has been installed/updated; which is why I want to install the best version for this OS from the beginning.)
So, there it is. Please forgive my extremely obtuse (i.e. verbose) way of asking. But, thank you any and all in advance for any help you can send my way!
Cheers,
missdiana -
@missdiana Have you tired simply installing the latest MacOS version of Vivaldi?

@missdiana Hello,
I think 1.15 was the last stable release to support OSX 10.9 Maverick as support for this macOS version was dropped in late August 2018.
You can also give 1.16.1259.3 a try (see here), but that's a snapshot release, however the very last Vivaldi release to support Maverick as far as I can tell.

My condolences! My machine does well with 10.11, but not with 10.12... Which suits me.
Is it hardware related issues that make you prefer Mavericks to El Capitan? -
@eggcorn Thank you. I have not tried it (yet?).

@hlehyaric Thank you!!! I will take a look at both versions. I must admit, I'm used to posting questions in other (not Vivaldi) forums, with no responses. You all have humbled and blown me away with the quick and helpful responses. Thank you!

@oakdaleftl Thank you! It's not so much a hardware issue, than a "legacy" software issue. I'll probably go ahead sometime in the not-so-distant future and put El Capitan on a different drive and install the recent release of Vivaldi on that. Thank you all again!

Now I'm curious: Third-party or Apple, if you don't mind telling...
(I still have two machines that have Glider Pro installed! But I can't remember an application that died with a system upgrade. But since I'm still using El Capitan I'm well-used to seeking the older versions repositories of stuff I think might be useful... Many vendors keep such.)
