Emojis don't work on outlook.live.com
-
Hello!
Emojies used work in Vivaldi v3 if my memory serves me.
But they don't in version 4. Do newer Vivaldi browsers rely on different fonts which don't have these Unicode symbols? Please see the attached screenshot. These emojies are expected to be yellow. As you can see, some of them are missed, others are black'n'white outlined pictures, majority of which cannot be selected and inserted into email.

@hectorb Which emoji fonts have you installed in Linux?
-
@doctorg This is a good question.
Frankly I didn't install anything specifically. They used to work before so I didn't bother. What fonts should check and install if missed?
-
@hectorb For example Noto Color Emoji.
-
Absolutely fantastic! You saved me today!
I had to install two packages:
-
fonts-ttf-google-noto-emoji
-
fonts-ttf-google-noto-emoji-color
Now this works! Thank you very much indeed!

Well, however this is interesting.
I've played a bit more with emojis and confirmed that only Vivaldi browser doesn't render these symbols.
Firefox and MS Edge show pages with emojis pretty well.
And this is not limited by Outlook.live.com site, other sites experience the same issue.
So installation of these fonts can certainly be treated as a workaround but definitely not as a solid solution. -

Both have installed their own emoji fonts on Windows.
On Linux it depends on installation which emoji font will be installed. -
Good to know, thanks!
Sure thing I'm talking about Linux only, haven't tried new Vivaldi on Windows yet. Then I can paraphrase my question - why can't Vivaldi browser install the required fonts?

@hectorb I'd say that a browser is not responsible for providing the necessary fonts for the client's OS. If anything, the web developer should embed a web version of any non-standard fonts that they use on their website.
In the case of MS Outlook, I just tried it in Vivaldi 5.0.2497.48 on Windows 10, and they show up here with no issues. The standard Windows "Segoe UI Emoji" font is used to display them. I guess that on Linux you'd have to get the required fonts by yourself (if there are no suitable fonts included by default).
