Bookmark bar showing duplicate folders + bookmarks missing
-
Hello, I did a quick search on the forum but couldn't find a similar post, so I decided to create a new one.
If someone has already posted a similar question, please point the way.When I clicked on the "More bookmarks" button, some of the folders are duplicates of those already on the bookmark bar.
Please see attached screenshot.
Also, some bookmarks are not showing up at all.Is it a bug, or perhaps a setting I unknowingly messed up?

@allenskao The bookmarks bar is nothing more than the display of a folder you have chosen to show as bookmarks bar. Whatever is in the folder will be on the bar.
"Other Bookmarks" is not a Vivaldi thing. It's only going to appear if you have imported bookmarks from Chrome, Chromium or another Chromium-based browser that uses this folder. Vivaldi does not create/use it. So if you don't want to delete the folder altogether (given that it's full of duplicates) you can move any content there that you wish to retain in Vivaldi to any location outside the folder and then delete the folder.
Vivaldi does not yet have a function to delete duplicates. On the whole, however, if you delete them, they should stay gone. (only caveat here is that if you fire up a synced instance of the browser that has not been used in weeks or months, it may re-introduce copies of bookmarks into the mix on sync)

Hello,
@Ayespy Thanks for posting a reply.
The strange thing is, when I go into bookmarks (Vivaldi button=>Bookmarks), there is no duplicate folder whatsoever.
Also, on mobile (Vivaldi on my Android phone) there is no duplicate, either.
The only place I see duplicate bookmark folders are on the bookmark bar.
Or more specifically, in the dropdown after clicking on "More bookmarks." -
@allenskao What is the name of the folder that you have designated as your Bookmarks Bar?
-
@Ayespy It's just "Bookmarks".
I think this is the default setting? -
And when you open that folder in the Bookmarks panel at the side of your browser, it does not have an "Other Bookmarks" folder in it? Can you show a screenshot?
-
No, it doesn't.
Here is what it looks like when I click on the "More bookmarks" button. -
@allenskao OK. I assume from that screenshot that you have your panels on the right side of your browser, though that shot does not show the panel bar.
So - final thing I can think of - did you import bookmarks from Chrome?
-
@Ayespy
My panel is set at left side of browser - does it make a difference?I think my bookmarks were imported from Brave browser.
-
@allenskao If your panel is at the left side of the browser, then the bookmarks you show in your screen shot are not the bookmarks view as seen in the panel.
-
@allenskao This is the end of my browsing day.
It's nearly midnight here, and I must retire. See you again in about nine hours.

So... what does the button at the end of bookmark bar do, as circled in red? -
@allenskao That shows you the overflow of your bookmarks toolbar, which has too many bookmarks to all fit on the bar horizontally the way you have it displayed. In my case, it does not overflow because I have it displayed "icons only" and I recognize every bookmark by its icon and its position on the bar.
