Solved Can't open links in gmail
-
Hello.
When using gmail via Vivaldi browser I have notice that I can't open links from different mails. Just to be sure that it just happen in Vivaldi, I have open gmail in chrome, firefox and there it works.
I can open most of the "clean links" those that are like https:// www. url . com but lot of links that are embedded in "buttons" and images, not working. When I click on such links, a new tab opens but the tab stays empty and the urlbar either is empty or have https:// www . google . com / url in them.
I have looked around in the settings for Vivaldi but can't find anything.
thanks in advanced for any help.

@pathduck Hi, thank you for the welcoming to the Community.
Vivaldi 5.0.2497.38 (Stable channel) (64 bitar) Version 7c6d0949a1c049b97a691a81fdca00bac12f60db OS Windows 10 Version 21H2 (Build 19044.1466)
I followed the troubleshoot and opened a guest browser window, logged into gmail and tried it again. This time it worked
Then I looked the shield in the urlbar, noticed that it was set to not block anything.
I went back to my original browser window and went to setting > integrity and changed that setting from "block tracker and adds" to "no blocking", and it worked. Then I tried to the middle choice "block trackers" and it worked still. So my little issue is resolved. But I do have a question regarding that blocker. Because when I earlier tried to open a link and it didn't work. I clicked on the shield in the urlbar and changed it to "block tracker" or "no blocking" but those times it didn't work.
Again, thanks for your help and guiding.

@hedgedruid Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community
It certainly works here. Please post your Vivaldi version and OS from Help > About here in a code block (use </> icon above).
Please try the troubleshooting steps, including disabling extensions and testing in a clean profile:

@hedgedruid Hi, you don't need to override blocking globally, you can override per site if it doesn't work as expected.
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/privacy/tracking-and-ad-blocking/As to why it happened, it depends on a lot of stuff, like what lists you've enabled, some users also add lots of very strict blocker lists, and break site features. Impossible to say without sitting in front of your PC, inspecting network requests etc.
I use uBlock Origin and no specific exception for Gmail. I tried with Vivaldi adblocker, and no issue clicking on links in Gmail with that either.
I also don't understand what you mean by "links that are embedded in "buttons" and images, not working". Impossible to know without being there, could be a lot of causes. You might need to inspect the code to see what's specific about these links.

Yeah it's true when one isn't sitting in front of the PC and able to check things.
I have looked it over a bit more. So I don't used uBlock Orgin at the moment, just the one in Vivaldi and it is as default set on block tracker and ads. Some links opens up with no problem and those that not working, soem works when I change the setting for that specific page to just block tracker. But there are a few others that still don't.
Now I took a look at the url that is shown in the left corner of then browser, when I do a mouse-over the link. Notice one thing that I didn't think of. That those that do not open, even if I change the setting of blocker, be it just blocking trackers or non. Is that those links have click . mflow . com in them before the actual adress. They only work if I set as default no blocking at all.
Guess I figured out now
ah, when I wrote "links that are embedded" I did mean when the mail have this little image with text like "to the lecture" "to the shop" and so on. Sorry if I was a bit unclear, English is not my native.
Thanks for all the help Pathduck. I think I have started to get this sorted and understanding what different specifics about the link that doesn't work.
cheers.

@hedgedruid said in Can't open links in gmail:
click . mflow . com
There exists no server with that name according to DNS. Does it resolve to an IP for you?
$ nslookup click.mflow.com Server: 192.168.0.1 Address: 192.168.0.1#53 ** server can't find click.mflow.com: NXDOMAIN
That would certainly explain why it doesn't work, but does not explain why it works when adblocker is turned off.
Are you able to copy a whole link here, if it isn't too sensitive? Just right click and choose copy link address. Then paste in a code block so it looks like (for instance):
https://click.mflow.com/....
