In the bookmark panel, if you hold the delete key to delete selected bookmark and below, the selection line will jump periodically at the beggining and end of the bookmark list. So, effectively, since you holding delete, it will delete bookmarks at the beggining (not cool) and empty the trash folder (not cool AT ALL).

Lost a lot of precious bookmark this way, including my speed dial folder :c

And of course the backup file Bookmarks.bak is useless, by the time I checked it was already up to date with the current Bookmarks file... grrrr!

@yeen Hello and Welcome to the Vivaldi Community ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ‘

What can I say - don't hold down DEL when deleting stuff ๐Ÿ˜‰
(I keed, I keed, this is obviously a bug)

But in general, it's a better idea if you want to delete a lot of bookmarks, use multi-select holding down Shift or Ctrl. It works the same as in your OS.
        https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000771.htm

But please report a bug on this, make sure you can recreate the issue in a clean profile, then write a step-by-step report on how to reproduce.

        Please read:

        • Help us reproduce your issue
        • How to report a bug for Vivaldi

carefully and report the bug to Vivaldi bugtracker ๐Ÿ‘

@pathduck Hi, thanks for your quick answer.

Yeah from now on I will not deleting stuff that way granted ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I will make a bug report on this thanks for the links.

I think Vivaldi should keep backups of bookmarks, mistake can be made and a simple trash folder is not always enough to prevent a loss

@yeen said in Bookmark bug : holding delete key to delete bookmarks will make some bookmarks disappear forever:

if you hold the delete key to delete selected bookmark and below, the selection line will jump periodically at the beggining and end of the bookmark list.

I'm unable to reproduce that here. Just tried it in a test profile and no matter where I click (top, middle, bottom, a bookmark or a folder) to start deleting the bookmarks by holding [Delete], I always end up on the Trash itself (whether it was initially collapsed or expanded), upon which holding the [Delete] key has no effect. The bookmarks remain in the Trash and I can restore them easily. ๐Ÿค”

@pafflick I made a quick video. You'll probably need to do slow-motion or frame-by-frame 'cause my compy is sooo fast ๐Ÿ˜‰

@pathduck Well, after another set of tries, I finally managed to reproduce it, though not reliably. The faulty behaviour shows ~10% of the time, and I'm not sure what causes it - whether the number of bookmarks/folders or something else. ๐Ÿค”

@pafflick No idea, I just copy a bunch of bookmarks in a clean profile and press Del.

Might be something as banal as keyboard polling rates...
