With this kind of keyboard you almost have to run Linux instead of Android to make use of keyboard shortcuts and quick commands.
-
@luetage ... for the sake of my blutooth keyboard I would very much enjoy to have keyboard shortcuts on my android tablet. This device may be another reason to add them

Armed with full-fledged features
so where's proper text scaling and full extensions support (so not limited by broken Chromium API either)?
can you stop making statements like this when you can't back them up, please?
just be honest -
One of the reasons I'm really fussy with phones is I absolutely hate touchscreens with a passion but there are very few decent phones with buttons these days. When I use a smartphone I generally use KDEConnect to send SMS from the phone using my PC's keyboard, but this isn't ideal as the whole point of a mobile phone is that it works when you're mobile. I can't believe I hadn't already heard of Planet Computers, - a phone with a proper QWERTY keyboard built-in would be a godsend to me! It's just a pity that the pre-release price is so high. I'd be even more interested in getting one if they did a version with an e-ink display.
The other phone I've been looking at is the Mudita Pure, which would completely fill all of my needs for a mobile device if it were capable of displaying received MMS, as their software allows managing of contacts and SMS via the PC.

@jamesbeardmore It will get more expensive once itβs out. The preorder is cheaper afaik, but release dates shift and you will potentially wait for a long time (current release date January 2022 though).

Good news!

Looks like a cool phone. A bit expensive but I guess the target market is professionals and others who need to write on the go.
Would be pretty good for SSH'ing in to work to get stuff done though, instead of using a touch keyboard which is frankly a PITA

It all depends on your needs. In my case, I clearly prefer to use a keyboard and this keyboard is really good, IMHO. It is comparable to the Psion 5, for those of you that have tried it. Same designer.
This is their third phone. The first one was more of a straight Psion 5 replacement. The 2nd was more like the Nokia Communicator, with a small screen on the outside. This one has one big screen and the keyboard slides out. Means you can use it as a normal phone, although a big one, and as a computer. Android with a keyboard is clearly something else and you can always add Linux to the mix. One thing that sets this apart from other sliders is that you get a full keyboard. It slides all the way so instead of having keys you use with your thumbs, you get the full keyboard.

I recall back in the day, one of the foundations for success of the Opera browser was the work done to partner with product manufacturers to embed and ship with the tech - phones, set-top boxes, game consoles, and smart appliances. This exposed millions to the browser who might never have heard of it, and made them users. I'm actually kind of thrilled to see this strategy back in action.
There are more Android and Linux-based devices in the world, mobile and otherwise, than other systems. To expand Vivaldi exposure to every corner of the world where Android and Linux find a foothold only enhances the browser's (and the company's) prospects for success and longevity. Long live Vivaldi.

@Ayespy , indeed. We had a lot of success with this strategy at Opera. We had the ability to deliver on any device. The inherent flexibility that was built in made it possible for us. Now we head in the same direction. Linux is a core part of our strategy for sure and we will do our best to support Linux. We have started to be bundled with Linux distributions as well. The Polestar and Planet Astro Slide are unique devices. More will follow.

Looking at the first Screenshot I can't help but think to put the tabs on the side for more vertical screen real estate, like edge does it... as an option of course
-
@wildente , remember that the UI scrolls out of view when you scroll. In reality you will want to run Vivaldi in desktop mode on this device in horizontal mode and that means you want all the width you can get.

Hey! Serious Psion Series 5 feelings! Such good ol' days!

This post is deleted! -
I've been using Psion PDAs for a while. The last one was the 3mx - no colour and
pretty clumsy as far as communications withe outside world were concerned.
It still lives - in a cupboard. It can do very limited webbrowsing but only dial-up
email.
Would be interesting to know how much the new Astro Slide will cost. It should work
out of the box in New Zealand (5G was introduced a while ago but NZ is pretty hilly, so
5G was more for Auckland and the America's Cup on the Hauraki Gulf...)

Pretty pictures and lovely presentation... Where's the product? Specs? 3D Visuals? Purchasing Procedure(s)??? Just askin...

Looks like a palmtop (extremely small laptop) computer. But is it also a tablet computer? In other words: Can the Astro Slide 5G's keyboard detach, or fold all the back, so that you can use this computer as a tablet?
Edit: I ansered my own question, the keyboard does retract. This is both a laptop and a tablet computer.

@Eggcorn It's a palmphonblet.
