Hide tab bar on tablets
-
It would be really useful to be able to hide the tab bar on tablets. I own an 8 inch tablet and the tab bar consumes a big portion of the screen. I could not find any workaround or hack. It would be great to have a "Show Tab Bar" switch which is available for mobile devices.
I don't really understand why it's been removed in the first place...

I also need this feature.
I have an option to enable/disable tab bar in mobile phone.
But when it comes to tablet, my option disappears.Users shoud have the option, not to be forced to use tab bar.
This is not Vivaldi-like behavior. -

Would definitely be nice on iPad - quite a bit of wasted (usually) space at top of screen for the tab bar.

That's too conditional, it's unreliable. Some pages put their scrollable content in some kind of container that makes Vivaldi think the page isn't being scrolled at all, and then the tabs bar just stays in place. We would still need a manual option to force-hide tabs (or go fullscreen) to cover also those situations (and I'm talking smartphone here, I'm not even using a tablet but still regularly run into situations where this is annoying).
And when the website has its own in-page oversized top bar that won't scroll out of view either, and if you want to try typing some message into that page in that situation, with the soft keyboard covering another half of the screen... good luck seeing even one line of text while you're typing. (I've resorted to making fonts smaller just to get some sliver of visibility in that kind of situation, and of course that landed me straight in "fullscreen YT videos are now cut off" land
).

The lack of this option breaks the UI on folding devices. If you have tab bars disabled while on the cover screen of a folding device, it remains "disabled" on the inner screen. The tab bar is still there, but instead of displaying tabs, it's just solid colored, unused space. I thought this was a random glitch in the UI, but it just seems to be stubborn inflexibility of the UI for no reason.
Without this option being available for tablet-sized displays, you cannot hide the tab bar on the cover screen without having a broken UI for the inner screen. At this point it's not a discussion about implementing a feature, it's a discussion about fixing a bug.
