deleting sent messages requires to be in "sent folder"
-
The only way to delete sent messages is to be in sent folder.
When I try to delete one (by pressing SHIFT + DEL) or to send one to trash (pressing DEL or hitting trash icon), from "all messages" or any custom filter, nothing appens.
Is this a known or even required behaviour ? It's kind of boring when I clean up my mails...
Thanks.
I run Vivaldi 4.3.2439.65 (Stable channel) stable (64 bits)

@mazu It is probably a known issue.
Use Shift+Delete from the Sent folder to avoid moving mails to trash.

I wonder if I was clear..
The problem is to delete (or send to trash) any sent messages (no problem with received ones). No way to perform this from any folder except sent folder..
Is it what you understood ? Could I hope this will be fix in the future releases ?
Thanks.

Hello @mazu
I can reproduce this and will file a bug report (unless you have already done so?) and follow up on this.
Thank you for reporting this.

G'day all.
ACTUALLY ...
For archival reasons I want to keep a record of all messages I have sent. I thought not being able to accidently delete 'Sent' mail was a desirable safety feature.
As mazu does, I also use M3 in the 'show all files' mode (by selecting 'All Messages') and I really don't want to accidently delete sent messages when deleting unwanted received mail.
As it is, it works for me!

@oziian3880 it is never a good idea to make your workflow depend on a bug... Instead you could set up a filter showing all mails that are both sent and in trash, and you can happily empty the trash bin as long as that filter is empty

I accept that you may see it as a 'bug'. But is it really?
I guess what I was saying is that I don't believe this issue IS actually a bug but, as far as I'm concerned, it is a highly desirable safety feature. It's like the safety latch on a gun.
Like I said, I keep just about ALL my sent emails in M3 (and keep them on my mail server, as well). Unless one sends a lot of banal messages, in my mind, keeping a record of what you said to whom and when is almost a legal necessity.
For the odd one or three sent messages I choose to delete, it is far quicker and easier to go to the 'Sent' folder when I need to - maybe once a week. One click - that's all - then multiple highlight & delete. Done. Back to 'All Messages'.
No, thanks - I don't have the time to go through the process of setting up filters and the like when the exact facility I want is already in M3.

Ummmm ... I'd like you to reconsider if this is a bug or a desired feature. See my posts above. -
Ok. If something looks like a bug according to some users, I think this means there is something wrong, even if this is a desired feature.
What is desired ? To protect some messages from being mistakenly deleted.
My questions are :
- why would you protect only sent messages ?
- why the only view where messages are protected is 'All messages' view ?
My solution :
- a new 'protected' tag to disable the delete action. It could be automatically set by using a dedicated filter.
